My previous experience includes work as a private practitioner at San Diego Psychology Center (SDPC). While at SDPC, I have had the privilege of providing psychotherapy to veterans and the family members of enlisted men and women of the armed services paid by Tri-Care and Tri-West. I am also recognized by the Victims of Crime Program of the Department of Justice as a therapist for victims of violence and crime. At my practice at SDPC, I also treat individuals who suffer from addiction and other obsessive–compulsive behaviors.
In addition to my private practice at SDPC, I provide services to several Head Start Centers in the northern San Diego area. These include individual and group behavioral observations of children between 3 and 5 years old, consultations with teachers and parents, mental health action plans, and referrals to different providers.
Mental Health Services to specific populations. These experiences have included behavioral and developmental evaluations of individuals with pervasive developmental disorders like autism, Aspergers and mental retardation among others. These services were contracted by Regional Centers of San Diego through a certified vendor.
I have also worked at a short-term residential facility for adults, most of whom presented with severe mental disorders, were destitute, and were considered to be at risk for harming themselves or others. The clinical services that I provided at the facility included intake management, risk assessment, and development of action plans to be applied after patient discharge.
In the past, I have also provided services to other specific populations such as high-risk, low-income, resilient children in Mexico City. These services included psycho-education and counseling centered on violence prevention, healthy sexuality, and the prevention of drug use and addiction.
Having been born in Mexico and living as a Latino in the United States, I am sensitive to cultural factors that may play a role in therapy; I carefully consider these factors while providing services to any person of specific cultural or ethnic backgrounds. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
