About Lori

Bio

I have taught 1st - 3rd grade for 18 years at the same school in Fontana USD at Tokay Elementary. I retired in October of this past year. My certification to teach will expire in 2020.

I love working with kids, especially those who struggle meeting grade-level expectations. I also can work with parents and teacher to ensure that we are working as a team to give the best support to my students. I believe learning should be fun! Let me help you succeed!

I love working with kids, especially those who struggle meeting grade-level expectations. I also can work with parents and teacher to ensure that we are working as a team to give the best support to my students. I believe learning should be fun! Let me help you succeed!

I earned a Literacy Teacher Award and I have attended workshops yearly (at least 2-3 times) to keep my skills current. I have always believed that teaching reading and comprehension are necessary to the success of all subjects.

I began my education in Chicago, which taught how to teach, using what today is called Common Core. I believe this is the best way to teach kids. Allowing students to explain their learning and choosing their own method to solved a problem allows students to take a more active role in their education. Students who interact with their learning have a tendency to retain more than the average non-participant.

I have taught 1st = 3rd grade for over years. Our resource teacher requested me as the general education teacher for her students as I was able to differentiate my teaching to meet the various learning styles of my students. I've been told by all my principals that I am a I am a good teacher, as have my colleagues. I love helping kids!

I was trained both by reading recovery teachers and Open Court training especially in phonics and beginning reading. Although I know not every student learns to read with phonics, a majority of students do.

If you think you might benefit from my services, send me an email. I will help you become more successful in your academics. I am available 6 days a week and am flexible in the hours available to meet your needs.

Common Core,

Common Core

While Common Core has only been around for a couple of years, I have always believed the fundamentals of Common Core my entire teaching career. As an elementary school teacher for the past 18 years, I have taught in this style my whole career. This is the style I was taught to teach in Chicago.
Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

In Chicago, there is an actual major called Elementary Education, of which I completed and was more rigorous than the 5th year needed in California to be certified to teach. Nonetheless, I completed my fifth year in California walking away with a clear CLAD credentialed and deemed highly qualified by the NCLB act. I have taught for 18 years at the 1st-3rd grade level and subbed in the other grade levels. I have taught small groups in my classroom and I have tutored in afterschool/Saturday school programs offered through my school.
Homeschool,

Homeschool

I am well versed in the curriculum for K-6th grade. I am also familiar with using the internet to expand learning opportunities. As an 18-year veteran of elementary education, and a tutor, I am qualified to home school as well.
Phonics,

Phonics

In Chicago, teaching reading using phonics is an actual class for all elementary educators. Additionally, I have attended numerous trainings in the teaching of reading, which of course always includes phonics. I have done extensive small group and tutoring using phonics.
