Doing business in America is just easier if you sound “American”. Business professionals are frequently called upon to make presentation or speak publicly; being able to do so with a more neutral American English accent often makes it easier for your colleagues and/or audience to understand and engage with you.

Business professionals are frequently called upon to make presentation or speak publicly; being able to do so with a more neutral American English accent often makes it easier for your colleagues and/or audience to understand and engage with you.

My specialty is in helping you master the ‘General American Dialect’ also referred to as the ‘Non Regionally Specific American Dialect’. We focus primarily on the nuances of specific vowel sounds and consonant usage as it pertains to Business English and Conversational English for the North American market. This isn’t about losing your accent, but rather learning how to perfect your current English skills and to speak English with an American English accent (note: British English is different!).

My academic background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance Production from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, a Master’s degree in Humanistic Psychology from Antioch University in California, Designated Linklater Voice Teacher (DLT) with studies at the Canadian National Voice Intensive and hosted KLVC in London, England. I have studied three languages, including Greek, Spanish and French at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. I particularly enjoy working with professionals of all ages, levels and nationalities, who seek to improve their English for business purposes.

I’ve lived and worked in 8 different countries, spent more than a decade studying speech and language, including the nuances of “regionally specific dialects” across North America and Europe. Did you know that dialects change approximately every 20 miles? And a trained ear can pick up the subtle differences. My initial voice study was “Spoken Level Voice” for theatre, and was based around Shakespearean text. It’s not as much about projection as people seem to think it is, but more about emotionally connecting with text that is basically written in another language. It is also learning to become adept and fluid in iambi

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Professional theatre training and performance, in London, NYC and now Los Angeles, has given me an excellent base and skill set, but where my skills were really honed was at large conferences, on the stage, and often on the road, in front of hundreds or thousands of people. This is where I perfected things like microphone technique, managing nerves, reading a crowd and keeping them engaged, working the stage and memorizing large bodies of text, that is often times technical and unnatural. I have extensive experience in the Public Speaking field, and am often hired by large corporations for events such as new product launches, press releases and trade shows. Whatever you challenges are in this area, I’d love to help you overcome them!
