About Jaime

I graduated from the University of Utah with my degree in Anthropology and a 3.9 gpa. I greatly enjoyed learning about different cultures around the world and human history. While I was an undergraduate student, I participated in a program called Science Bus. We would go to under-served schools and teach short science lessons with demonstrations and fun experiments. These students were in the fifth grade, and I found that I really enjoyed teaching elementary students.

It was always a great day when I could engage them in the subject while we all had fun learning. This experience helped shape my teaching style and I believe in engaging students with hands on learning. I found demonstrations, silly mnemonics, and keeping a positive attitude really helped the kids learn and stay engaged in the topics. I am a very friendly and encouraging teacher and I know that each student learns differently. I adjust my teaching style and lessons to fit each individual student. I have had the pleasure of working with many students over the years in Japanese, English, violin, reading, and science. I enjoy working with students and love to see them succeed and gain confidence in their abilities.

I am now going back to school to finish my pre med requirements and am currently applying to medical school. I recently earned in the 96th percentile on my MCAT and have maintained a 3.8 gpa. I am also a research assistant at UCLA doing research in lung cancer. Doing research definitely encourages critical thinking and problem solving and it is very exciting to be on a team that is working to improve the wellness of others. When I am not studying or working, I love to play the violin. I have played in many orchestras, ensembles, bands, and have always found the violin to be a great source of comfort and joy. I love to share this love of music with my students. I also love to hang out with my husband and my dog, surf, hike, and read.

I worked with refugee youth for about a year and helped prepare and teach lessons that focused on English learning. I have also tutored in reading and writing with elementary age students.

I have played the violin for 18 years and have had several beginning violin students ages 3-30. My lessons focus on technique, reading music, and having fun while you learn to play an extremely difficult instrument.

Thank you again for taking the time to visit my profile. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I earned my degree from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA. My main focus was cultural anthropology, although I did take an archaeology and a human biology/evolution class as well. I mainly studied Native American cultures of both the Western and Eastern North America and had a slight focus on women cross culturally.

Violin

I have played the violin for 18 years and have taught several students ages 3-30. I prefer teaching beginning students to work on proper technique, music reading, and musicality. I have played in several orchestras and ensembles. I am also a violinmaker and understand the workings and proper care of a violin.
