Bio

A great tutor will make you a better student, but as a certified Academic Manager I do more than that. My specialty is turning academic drudgery into discovery. Along with your confidence, you'll see your grades go up. But more importantly, in the time you spend with me I'll show you how to transform yourself into a lifelong learner — a skill that pays dividends by shortening your learning curve and maximizing your growth no matter where life takes you.

My approach is creative, engaging, and effective. Best of all, it's FUN!! I've worked with all ages in multiple subjects, with a special expertise in helping students discover a writing process that works for them. I' have helped countless students to craft their best papers, including A+ research papers, winning arguments and college application essays that open doors.

So if you're overwhelmed, overworked or creatively paralyzed and struggling to get ahead, don't worry! There is a better way. Let me show you.

Have questions? Message me to set up a no-cost phone consult. I look forward to meeting you!

P.S. Here's a bit of my own story, if you're curious: I was homeschooled until 8th grade, completed high school at age 16 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado with a BA in Psychology (concentration in Chemistry/Neuroscience). I have over 7 years' tutoring experience with proven strengths in English, science and communications, including 1,100+ hours advanced training in biology, anatomy and physiology. Although I have met my pre-med requirements and was hired as an associate professor by CU's Psychology Department while still an undergrad, I chose to hold off on medical school and instead pursue my ambitions of being a professional writer, a goal I have accomplished since moving to Los Angeles!

Anatomy

In addition to graduating with honors as a pre-med student, I trained extensively at the American Institute of Massage Therapy and was named valedictorian with over 1300 hours in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and practicum. I find this subject a blast to teach. In fact, one of my favorite students just finished out her A&P class with flying colors and I'm super proud of her! (It was the first time she'd ever gotten an A in science.)
Psychology

Psychology

I specialize in turning academic drudgery into curiosity. Learning about behavior and what it means to be human can be some of the most exciting work you ever do — I promise to show you how. I graduated with honors studying psychology with an emphasis in chemistry/neuroscience from CU, and my track record was so strong in that department that I was hired by the university to co-teach an undergraduate psych course while I was still an undergrad. Trustworthy with all subjects from abnormal, cognitive and positive psychology, statistics, clinical approaches, research and academic writing.

I was trained by the University of Colorado Department of Education to administer a reading program to special needs 3rd graders in the community. This entailed a detailed certification course, equipping me to tutor in a group setting at Bates Elementary School. I also did reading tutoring one-on-one with students at the University in an after-school program. Since then, I have worked with a number of students with special considerations, including dyslexia and brain injury.

Getting unstuck

My 10th grade daughter was in a rut. She was missing deadlines for homework, quizzes, projects, performances. She was not taking responsibility for her academics. In just two sessions, I’ve seen a turnaround. Bethany has helped my daughter articulate some goals and my daughter checks in daily as an accountability measure. Bethany has a kind and upbeat demeanor and she is very approachable. It’s early yet but there is a path forward and we are encouraged. Thank you Bethany!

Excellent guidance by Beth.

Our 13 year old felt comfortable and he saw immediate results from the time spent with this exceptional tutor. We would be honored to refer Bethany to young students in need of guidance.

Excellent tutor

Bethany was able to connect with my daughter and quickly figured out a system to help her stay on track. After only one session I’m already very hopeful that Bethany will be able to help my daughter finish her assignments on time without my involvement or frustration. Thank you!!

Bethany is a genius!

I met Bethany a tutor here on Wyzant about a year and a half ago. I was going back to school to get my master in early childhood education but I had been out of school myself for over 20 years! I did not know how to study or approach my assignments. Bethany and I met for about an hour and a half a year and a half ago and she put me on the right path to get straight A's. I just recently got back in touch with her about 6 weeks ago for one on my last classes that I found very challenging. Once again, Bethany explained my assignments to me and helped me organize myself. I received an "A" on my final paper and in the class. I know that I could not have achieved this without her amazing teaching skills. She is so easy to work with and such a genius.

My father struggles with English - Bethany boosted his confidence tenfold.

My father has struggled with his English for the last twenty years. As a business owner in Los Angeles, his English has always been a thorn in his side. From business meetings to daily e-mails, his lack of formal English education has always slowed him down in his professional life. Bethany arrived to his office and went over his strengths and weaknesses in an initial meet and assessment. Even in such a short period, she understood where there was room for improvement and took the time to listen to Nikolai’s goals. My father left the class with a new found confidence and is now looking forward to weekly classes with Bethany. Thank you!

Knowledgeable Anatomy Tutor

She introduced online resources that I could test myself with. She is really knowledgeable in the material and she makes it fun to remember.

My daughter reported she helped her a lot, and enjoyed her teaching style.

We called upon Bethany to help tackle my daughter's first writing assignment of 10th grade. She was able to quickly identify how to best help my daughter. We will be using her now on a regular basis.
