Having played guitar for 19 years, I studied privately through high school as well as studying classical guitar, latin music and jazz in college at Columbia College Chicago. I studied classical guitar with Norman Ruiz at Columbia, University of Oregon's John Jarvie and I also studied electric guitar in my earlier years with popular Chicago rock guitarist Kevin M. Buck. I have learned and am familiar with music theory, ear training, basic keyboard skills, guitar performance, as well as electronic music production.

As a guitar instructor, I can help you learn modern songs of any style, music reading, finger-style techniques, strumming techniques, soloing/improvisation, composition and performance techniques. I teach and enjoy playing many different songs and instrumental pieces from the styles of pop, rock, blues, funk, classical and Brazilian Jazz.

I produce my own and other people's music, studied electronic music production through specialized schools and private instruction., and can teach the skills to help understand how use music software programs like Ableton, Logic X/Pro and Garage Band.

Subjects

Music

General Music,

General Music

I received an Associate of Art degree with a focus in Music, so I am well rounded with different aspects of music. I was trained with general piano skills, rhythm training, ear training as well as classical and jazz guitar. I play 4 different instruments - Guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums; and I compose and record with all of those instruments. I currently teach private guitar and bass lessons but have also taught group guitar and rock band classes before.
Guitar,

Guitar

I have been a guitar teacher of 9 years, teaching all skill levels and ages. I have taught private and group lessons in different music establishments as well as out of my house and I'm happy to provide a resume for any inquiries. I enjoy playing and teaching pop, rock, classical guitar, folk finger-style, Brazilian jazz, soul, R&B, funk and improvisational guitar. I am able to assist with tablature, reading notes and reading sheet music in many different styles including the ones listed above. Through plucking and picking exercises, rhythmic strumming and sight reading, I assure that I can help my students reach a higher level of playing. I have been performing guitar and bass guitar for over 10 years around Chicago and the West Coast. Performing is my passion and I believe it's the most important aspect of learning music whether you are playing guitar for fun, in front of friends, or performing guitar at a concert.
Music Theory,

Music Theory

I have been through 3 years of Music Theory in College and I've always received an A in those classes. Many people struggle with music theory classes but having a teacher who explains the concepts clearly is crucial to understanding Music Theory. With patience and determination, I can help you achieve a better understanding of Music Theory.
Songwriting

Songwriting

I write my own musical pieces, working with software for music production and recording. I have also played and writen bass lines for electric bass guitar in a band. One of my previous teaching jobs included working with youth bands where I taught them contemporary songs, helped them write original songs as well as preparing their bands for performances.
