I have been tutoring and TAing (also known as GSIing) for about four years now. I started by working in a high school physics classroom as an undergraduate, providing additional support so that everyone could get one-on-one help every class period. I have been tutoring and TAing (also known as GSIing) for about four years now. I started by working in a high school physics classroom as an undergraduate, providing additional support so that everyone could get one-on-one help every class period. From there, I started tutoring high school students in physics and in math, and then started working for my university, hosting official tutoring sessions for non-physics majors who were taking introductory physics. As a graduate student, I have taught physics to both majors and non-majors, and enjoy the unique interactions that come from working with both groups.

My favorite thing about tutoring is finding the right way to explain a concept to a particular student. We all have different experiences and mental frameworks, and it is important to understand that, because of that, one explanation does not fit all! I typically structure tutoring sessions by working through problems with students: this way, (1) they see where the concepts fit into the bigger picture, (2) I get a better idea of how their mind works and how to explain things so that they will click, and (3) they get the chance to see for themselves how their understanding and comfort with the subject matter is growing.

Math is an integral part of my everyday work as a physicist and physics student. I love to explain it to others in the same way it first captivated me - as a process of discovery!

I have chosen to dedicate my life to physics - as a student, a researcher, and, of course, a teacher. I am excited for any chance to pass along the years of fantastic mentorship I have been lucky enough to receive in this field.
