I have several years of experience teaching and tutoring both R and Matlab programming languages, ranging from complete introductory level to advanced methods in data science, machine learning, and computational analysis in engineering.

In addition to having great expertise in solving various statistical, mathematical, and scientific problems using programming, it's something I greatly enjoy! I hope to be able to not only share my expertise, but also share the joy of programming and problem solving!

MATLAB,

MATLAB

I spent 5 semesters as a Graduate Student Instructor at UC Berkeley teaching introductory level MATLAB programming. My tasks included developing programming assignments, creation of exam questions, and teaching discussion sections and review sections. I spent significant amounts of time working with students, guiding them through the processes of problem solving, code-writing, debugging, and solidifying concepts. Solving complicated problems in Matlab is something I greatly enjoy, and I hope to share that joy with you!
R

R

I have over 5 years experience in writing R code and have written several thousands of lines of R code. I have completed graduate level coursework at UC Berkeley focused on the R language and its application to solving statistical problems. I have direct experience with computational models, probabilistic models, statistical analysis, data management/manipulation, and data visualization, all in the R environment. I have tutored R in the past, and can help with anything ranging from the very fundamentals of programming to advanced methods and debugging.

Civil Engineering

I spent ten years as a Civil Engineering student! II obtained my BS from the University of Pittsburgh, and my MS and PhD from UC Berkeley. The concepts of Civil Engineering have always fascinated me, which is why I stayed in school for so long. When I was at UC Berkeley I spent many semesters teaching CE classes, ranging from freshman level to graduate level, and I was even the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award. My main areas of expertise are in intro-level programming and computation, and upper level topics in hydrology, fluid mechanics, and water resources. Ask me about other subjects!

Extremely skilled, patient, thoughtful, organized, professional, fun, and all around fantastic teacher!

Brad is awesome!!! I came to the lesson feeling a bit nervous. I am new to the subject of Machine Learning and the R programming language for one, and there's always a little anticipation when you're meeting with a teacher for the first time. As soon as I met with Brad and we started discussing the subject matter I felt at ease. He is highly knowledgeable about Machine Learning & R. He is terrific at breaking down difficult concepts into simpler explanations. I could tell how much he cares about a students learning experience, and creating a comfortable environment that makes it valuable for the learner - I never felt talked down to during our lesson nor did he ever have an impatient tone... All in all, I walked away from our lesson with more understanding of the R programming language, how to work in the R Studio IDE, and more knowledgeable about some of the key points in Machine Learning with R. I would highly recommend a lesson with Brad. I am looking forward to our next one!

Incredibly knowledgable, patient, and great teacher

Brad is probably one of the best tutors I've come across. He's incredibly knowledgeable but can also explain processes very well. His analogies are very useful for beginner and intermediate programmers. I like that he is very patient and will go with the speed you are comfortable with. He's professional, punctual, and has great teaching skills. I highly recommend him!

Knowledgeable, patient tutor!

Brad was helpful in helping me work through an extremely difficult optimization problem which included beam analysis and Matlab optimization functions. Definitely a positive learning experience, would recommend!
