My love for essay-writing and test instruction stems from understanding personally what it is like to perform and produce under stress. My studies of psychology, learning styles, English--and even classical music--have complimented the individualized lessons I've provided for hundreds of students in public and private venues. It's important to me to find students where they're at, academically and personally. Having a tutor who has been in competitive environments and learned how to thrive is a good inroad to academic excellence.
I offer personalized, high quality SAT/ACT verbal and writing sessions, as well as essay/literature responses and editing. SAT/ACT sessions include reading and essay strategies designed to maximize students' completion times and scores. I provide homework, with practice tests to chart students' improvement, as well as to target areas that need extra attention. I am aware of the current changes in the SAT and ACT test formats, and can guide students through new changes--for example, essay prompt analysis, outlining, and the different writing goals of the SAT and ACT.
I am a tireless reader and writer, with lots of handy tools to share with students needing assistance with high school and college literature and essay assignments.
I've read many of the classics typically assigned in high school English classes and have helped students interpret these and write high-scoring essays.
I've worked for the past ten years at an award-winning test preparation company in Lafayette and have had the honor of working personally with a wide range of students, from those who have struggled and prevailed to those who have achieved perfect scores.
I've also worked as a lead consultant at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, learning and teaching cutting-edge reading and comprehension strategies to children and adults.
My passion for finding students' learning styles and meeting them where they're at is a key skill in elementary instruction. I'm quick to recognize students who have learning differences, and equally quick to spot students who thrive when challenged to push their intellectual limits.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
