Williams College (Chemistry and Biology)
University of California, Berkeley (Enrolled)
During my time in Williams College I tutored students in introductory chemistry, organic chemistry, cellular biology and organismal biology. During the Winter of 2015, I taught two sections of neuroscience and microbial composting at a public high school in New York City. In addition to tutoring work, I was also a teacher's aid for introductory chemistry labs. Through all of these experiences, the one thing I wanted more than anything was for my students to thrive.
Starting college, I knew I had a passion for science but I did not have the same training as some of my peers. My first year, I highly depended on tutors to make up for a learning gap that I could not fill with my own high school background. Personally knowing the positive impact a good tutor can have on one's mastery of a material inspires me to give others the self confidence to pursue their own dreams.
I excelled in mathematics in high school, taking AP Calculus AB and BC and receiving a score of 5 on both exams. Additionally course work I have taken in college, like Ordinary Differential Equations and Advanced Statistics requires a mastery of these fundamental mathematical skills.
As a tutor, I am personally invested in your learning and success as a student. As someone who has struggled with this very same material at one point before, I know how tempting it can be to give up. But the fact of the matter is that you can approach these materials and understand them with the right help and the right mindset! excellent tutor. I feel luck to have someone like him to help my daughter. Hector is prepared, polite and patient. We are very pleased with his help. We feel lucky to have him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took Advanced Placement Calculus AB and BC in high school and passed with the highest scores. In college I studied biology and chemistry, but also took courses in multivariable calculus, ordinary differential equations, advanced statistics and discrete math--all of which are subjects that rest on having mastered concepts from Algebra 1.
I am a recent college graduate who majored in Chemistry and Biology, with a concentration in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Although I did not receive a degree in mathematics, I have indulged in a slew of advanced mathematics courses including but not limited to discrete mathematics, differential equations, advanced statistics and multivariable calculus--all of which are advanced courses that require a very strong foundation in Algebra 1 and 2.
I received a 5 on both AP Calculus AB and BC exams. Additionally, I have taken multivariable calculus, advanced statistics, discrete mathematics and ordinary differential equations and mechanical physics in college, all of which rely on having an strong understanding of the fundamental theorems of calculus.
I just graduated with Honors with a degree in Chemistry and Biology, with a concentration in biochemistry and molecular biology. I hope to be starting my doctorate degree at UC Berkeley in a lab that does chemical engineering.
As a recent college graduate, I majored in Chemistry and Biology, with a concentration in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Although these were my majors, I always took a keen interest in microbial life and diversity, so much so that I am now pursuing a doctorate degree in microbiology.
I am a recent college graduate that earned his degrees in Chemistry and Biology with a concentration in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Not only has my coursework involved introductory and intermediate organic chemistry, I have taken advanced labs in organic chemistry that have let me think about organic chemistry in advanced ways. I have performed independent organic chemistry research. Although I am now pursuing a doctorate degree in the biological sciences, molecular biology is highly informed by physical chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry. My scientific training so far has emphasized and celebrated an understanding in these fields to complement and foster biological insights.
