About Ian

I am a rising sophomore at the University of California, Berkeley studying Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. I am conducting biomedical research at the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT this summer. My math and science background has been strengthened by constantly challenging myself by taking the hardest courses possible and studying at a top engineering school in the world. I was a straight A student in high school (3.9/4 GPA) in all honors and AP courses.

I achieved standardized test scores in the 99+ percentile (35 composite ACT), 800 or 790 on 5 SAT II subject tests (Physics, Math I, Math II, Chemistry, Biology). As I am in Boston only for the summer, I will be focusing on ACT, SAT I and SAT II test preparation. I specialize in math and science, but was highly successful on English, Reading and Writing (34/36 English and Reading on ACT with 11/12 on writing). I never formally took the SAT because my ACT was slightly better, but on practice tests I scored in the high 2200's and I am very familiar with the exam (I first took it in 7th grade!).

I would love to help your child succeed and gain confidence. I will do my best to teach them not only the material but also how to approach problems in the future and how to learn as much as possible from their mistakes. My tutoring philosophy is centered on improving problem solving and developing one's critical thinking to come to the best answer. My tutoring will be highly targeted and specific for each student to maximize the benefits.

Please get in touch! I am excited to get started helping your child to more academic success.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I am very passionate about Biology. It was one of my favorite classes in high school! AP Biology didn't fit into my schedule at school so I took it on Sundays at MIT. I was one of the 5% of students who scored a 5 on the exam that year. I am currently conducting research in a Biology lab at MIT this summer.

Chemistry

I am at the top of my class at the best Chemistry department in the world.

I took AP Chemistry (5) and SAT II (800). Chemistry is my favorite subject.
