UC Berkeley (Public Heath, Integrative Biology)
Hi, my name is Johnny and I'm a UC Berkeley Undergraduate, double majoring in Integrative Biology and Public Health. I have two years of experience as a math tutor and Cantonese translator at Bella Vista Elementary School via East Bay Asian Youth Center and Skyline High School. When I was tutoring at Bella Vista Elementary School and Skyline High School, I enjoyed tutoring students individually and in groups. In addition, I am fluent in Cantonese and English and moderately fluent in Vietnamese and Spanish.
In preparation for the student's tutoring session, I would need to know ahead of time of what the student would to learn or practice. If the student requires homework tutoring, then I may require a small portion of the session to review in order to be able to thoroughly explain the lesson appropriately to the student. Most of the time I use the students textbook or online worksheets to pull problems from, to demonstrate explain the process of the execution of the problem in different situations. After the session is over, the student can have the option of receiving the work that was done during the session for future references.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have two years of experience of tutoring algebra 1 & 2 and precalculus at a high school, individually and in groups. In addition, I enjoy working with the youth academically especially students in my community.
