Macalester College (Classics)
I'm Kate. I'm a 26-year-old doctoral student in clinical psychology, and an excellent writer and editor. I grew up in the East Bay and went to college at Macalester College, a liberal arts college in St. Paul, Minnesota, where I graduated with a degree in classics. I specialize in tutoring writing, English, and study skills. I will substantially improve students' writing, editing, and proofreading. I also tutor in reading and American accent.
I was a peer tutor at Acalanes High School, and I became a National Merit Scholar during my senior year. During college, I studied at the competitive Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Italy, taught as the preceptor of a Latin class, and was a research fellow at an archaeological dig in Israel. These days, I work as a behavior tutor for autistic children and will begin graduate school in the fall. In the meantime, I'd love to tutor some great students.
I enjoy working with both children and adults. I take tutoring seriously, and I'll work hard to make sure you or your child learn as much as possible. I'm Kate. After going through different teachers to work with with our twins on reading, comprehension, and math, we finally found Kate. She is an inspiration to our kids. Our twins love reading and start to react differently about their experience with math and reading. We have started seeing light. Thank you Kate.
Kate is a hard-working, determined, and helpful person. She loves languages and knows how to teach them to non-native English speakers. We had three sessions. She listened to my needs carefully and used the time efficiently. I feel more comfortable about my accent and grammar after our sessions. She is on time to the meetings, well-organized, and easy to communicate with. I'm looking forward to our next meeting. I highly recommend Kate to anyone who is in need of tutoring.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
