I'm a recent MA recipient in sociology and a long-time tutor who has taught a wide range of subjects, from algebra to political science, since I started college almost a decade ago. I have both classroom and one-on-one experience, and in my work I emphasize the process of teaching a student not only specific knowledge but the skills and processes by which she or he can embrace learning independently. I have the most experience teaching mathematics through algebra, as well as history, sociology, and other social sciences, but I am comfortable with many other subjects.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked for years running after school classrooms for children from kindergarten through 6th grade, and worked closely with children who have struggled with elementary school math during mandatory study times. I also have extensive coursework in mathematics and statistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
I received a perfect math score (800 on the old scoring system) and scored in the 99th percentile (750) when taking the GRE in 2009. I have tutored test-prep at several levels, include the SAT and GRE.
I recently completed my MA in sociology at New York University. While completing my studies, I also worked for three years as a graduate research assistant in quantitative sociology and demography. I have experience editing sociology research for undergraduates, graduate students, and professors, and have a firm background in both empirical and theoretical sociology.
