Syracuse University (Music Industry)
My name is Michael, and I am a Music Industry student at Syracuse University. I reside in Berkeley, CA, and went to high school at Head-Royce in Oakland. I have been playing both music and sports for over 15 years
Music- I play 4 instruments- Saxophone, Guitar, Drums, and Flute. I'm primarily a Saxophone player and teacher, and I have been playing saxophone since the 3rd grade. I have also been playing auxiliary percussion since the age of 4. I have written music for Jazz Combos, and Roots Reggae bands, and I'm currently the front man of a live hip hop group in which I play the guitar and sing lead vocals. I have also won countless improvisation awards at Jass festivals in both California and Nevada. I listen to all kinds of music, and love everything from Animal Collective to John Coltrane. Besides teaching music and playing music, I would love to incorporate Music Business into my lessons as well. If a student is interested, I would also pass on my knowledge in regards to Record Labels, Concert Promoters and Producers, Music Publishing, Contracts, Royalties, New Media, Advertising, Marketing, and many more topics
Sports- I have played Soccer, Basketball and Baseball over the years, but focused more on baseball as I got older. When I was 12 years old I played in an international Baseball Tournament in Beijing, China with the Pacific Coast Stars. In North Oakland little league and higher levels of baseball, I was an All-Star every year. In High School, I was an All League Catcher my Junior year, and an All League Pitcher my senior year. I have also been tutored privately and attended many baseball related summer camps. I consider myself to be fundamentally sound as a player, and understand what it takes to be hone your skills physically and mentally. I can provide knowledge on anything from fielding, hitting, pitching, catching, or more specific topics such as; plate discipline, balance, pitch selection, throwing grips(pitching), infield positioning, footwork, outfield technique, and physical conditioning
Overall, I consider myself to be very laid back, and I love to laugh. That being said, I am also passionate about these topics. I truly love sports and music, and I want to see people succeed as much as possible. At the end of the day though, it really comes down to how much effort students are willing to put in. Either way, I will be with my students through all the many hurdles that they may face. Peace. My name is Michael, and I am a Music Industry student at Syracuse University. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
