Notre Dame de Namur University (History)
I tutoring for nearly three years for Notre Dame de Namur University. My supervisors having nothing, but praise to say about my work ethic, and tutoring that I have provided to my students. Before I was employed as a tutor, I was tutoring pro bono for several of my friends, editing their papers while attending college together, so it was a natural calling for me. I am very patient, and never judgmental towards my students challenges and commitment to their assignments. I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing students implement the studying habits, and improved grammar, and/or citation methods that I have taught them, and knowing that they will take those skills with them, and move on to more rewarding opportunities as they pass courses, see their grades improve, and ultimately graduate. Recently I have moved into the private sector tutoring foreign born students, and young children in specialized reading, writing, and vocabulary lessons to help them improve their school performance, along with weekly take home assignments. The position also necessitates commuting to several K-12 schools in my community.
In college I have studied Physical Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Anthropology of Film, and Anthropology: Latin American Politics. I haven't tutored many students in anthropology, but it is one of my favorite academic subjects, which I have a wide knowledge base of.
I am capable of tutoring AP English, AP Writing. I have tutored both graduate, and undergraduate students whose vocabulary was sometimes somewhat under par in terms of their expected curriculum plans. So, I helped them correct grammar, syntax, and polished their vocabulary to be more attuned to their expected core curriculum in order to achieve their highest grade potential.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in History, and have helped students filter, and understand the often complex, and seemingly dense information packed into World and American History textbooks by helping them learn more effective reading, and studying habits which would include highlighting thematically, writing in the margins, underlining, and highlighting key terms, and phrases, flashcards, individualized study plans for each student, and test preparation for midterms and finals.
My schedule is high flexible, and I often the benefit of experience, and an easy going personality. I am very patient, and non-judgemental. My hourly rates are negotiable. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
