I was a science, math , computer teacher for 20 years in many subjects and at many levels from elementary to college. along with teaching in the classroom ( mainly secondary), I would take on individual tutoring assignments. After retirement, I continued some tutoring and even ran a tutoring center at my local church.
I keep busy with a home repair business I started during my time as a realtor, and I find time to scuba dive, as well as spend time with my grandchildren.
I have always enjoyed math and science. I found I also enjoyed explaining it to someone who wanted to learn or needed to learn the particular subject. I have always attempted to explain the subject matter in interesting and diverse ways, with the emphasis on the student solving problems on their own. In other words, teaching the tools, showing examples; then patiently guiding them as they learn to solve problems or understand a concept on their own.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
