About Bruce

I believe that every student can learn. This has been my cornerstone philosophy in teaching my entire career. I believe in engaging my students in the learning process and challenging them to learn concepts that can then apply to any problem. I believe that fun is an integral part of learning and try to incorporate it into every lesson.
I have been involved in education for over 25 years. I have taught from 5th through graduate school. I have specialized in teaching children that are low performing or at risk and have great success at having students achieve. Currently, I am a Math/Science specialist for Apple Computers. I have spent 16 years involved with teaching teachers at the Claremont Graduate School of Education. I was Math Science advisor to new teachers. I most enjoy upper elementary and middle school students. I am known for my curriculum development expertise and development of unique teaching methodologies. I have worked on curriculum projects for NASA, JPL, Federal Department of Education, State of California, State of Texas and numerous school districts across the nation. I have an extensive content background in areas of biology life sciences,chemistry and pathology as well as strong background in Mathematics and teaching theory.
In terms of working with students, I am currently working with special ed teachers and students where i am focusing on the use of technology to enhance student engagement as well as student content learning. I can and will provide your student with the skills and knowledge they need to improve in school. Resume available upon request.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Science

I have been successfully tutoring students in standardized science tests for several years. All of my students have been successful on both the ACT or the SAT II science. My broad science educational background, especially at the graduate level provides me insights as to how to teach the more complicated topics. In, addition I have 16 years' experience at a graduate level university, teaching both science and math methods to master's level mathematics and science teachers. I believe all of this experience and education make me an excellent tutor. I can quickly diagnose weaknesses in content knowledge and develop an effective plan to support students raising their scores.

Anatomy

I have a broad background in medical sciences including graduate degrees. I have an extensive background in human anatomy, micro-anatomy, pathology and clinical laboratory sciences. I have taught on the secondary, under-graduate and graduate levels.

Biology

I have taught Biology in the middle school, high school and at the college level. I have also taught advanced graduate specialty classes. In addition, I have taught science methods courses to new teachers and interns. I have a broad background in medical science and research. I have published and presented several scientific papers. I have also worked for many science research institutes including, the City of Hope National Medical Center. USC School of Medicine, Kenneth Norris JR Cancer Research Hospital. NASA and JPl. I have a degree in Biology, graduate degrees in Life Sciences, Pathology and Education. These broad experiences and content knowledge allow me to teach key concepts and information in unique and meaningful ways to students.

Chess

I have played the game my entire life. I was on the chess time in high school and I have experience playing in tournaments through college. I greatly enjoy teaching people how to play chess.

Ecology

My graduate areas of study and research included the impact of environmental factors on disease. I have studied the local ecosystems extensively. I have also taught basic ecology and environment science at the High School, AP and graduate level. I have developed ecology and environmental science curriculum for both jr. High School and High School levels. I enjoy teaching these course very much.

Elementary Math

I have been teaching for 25 years, 16 of which have been at the university level in a teacher education program where I taught math and science methods to both elementary and secondary teachers and well as special ed. I am a patient and resourceful teacher that will find a method that works for your student to provide meaningful learning. I also have won awards for my elementary after school math and science programs. This program was focused at elementary students k through 6th. I have tutored students from 2nd grade to graduate school.

Elementary Science

I have an extensive background in basic sciences. I have graduates degrees in both sciences and education. I taught from elementary school through medical school. I also have taught basic science methods courses at the graduate level in a teacher education program where I specialized in working with elementary teachers. I am especially adept at explaining and illustrating complex science concepts and turning them into meaningful learning experiences for students.

Geometry

I believe that every student can learn. I am a patient and resourceful teacher that engages students in meaningful learning. I have an extensive background in mathematics and mathematics teaching methods. I have been teaching for over 25 years, including 16 years in a university graduate education program. I am very successful at finding alternative methods to learn and understand mathematical concepts at every level.

I have worked for Apple Professional Development for over 10 years. I am knowledgable in all basic apple platforms and apple software. I have also taught technology integration at the graduate level in teacher education programs.

Physical Science

I have a broad background in basic and advanced sciences. I have both undergraduate and graduate degrees in sciences I have taught physical sciences to both 8th and 9th graders. I have also taught both Science and Mathematics Methods courses to new teacher candidates at the graduate level. I was an award winning published bench scientist for many years before becoming a teacher. I have taught from 6th grade through medical school. Amazing Tutor

I am in Biology 101 in college. I have taken this class before and failed. I also have ADHD. I was in need of someone who could break down the material for me and who understood the way I learn. He really met all my expectations. I took my first test and did amazing. Would recommend to anyone who needs that extra help!!
