I'm originally from California, I've been married to my beautiful best friend for 7 years, and I have an awesome cat named Liam and an adorable basset hound named Marley. My wife and I moved to Buffalo in 2014 when I began the graduate program in philosophy at the University at Buffalo (UB).

MY EDUCATION BACKGROUND: Before coming to Buffalo, I graduated cum laude with an Honors BA in Philosophy, minoring in Religious Studies, from California State University, Northridge. Upon graduation, I was admitted to the PhD program in Philosophy at UB with a full tuition waiver and the Presidential Scholarship (the program's highest admittance package for incoming graduates). While in the PhD program, I completed a Master's thesis and received my MA in Philosophy from UB in 2016.

HOW I GOT INTO TUTORING: During my fifth year in the PhD program, I decided to take a leave of absence and put my dissertation work on hold so that I could focus more on my family. My leave officially began at the end of Spring 2019, and I started a full-time job in the insurance industry in March 2019. I continue to read and write philosophy, and tutoring was one way for me to get my foot back in the door to the world of teaching that I loved so much about my time in graduate school.

MY TEACHING AND MENTORING EXPERIENCE: During graduate school I gained considerable teaching and mentoring experience. I started by leading recitation sections for World Civilizations my first two semesters in the program, and was also a teaching assistant for three different philosophy courses. I led classes, graded assignments and term papers, and tutored undergraduates in the course materials during office hours. My efforts as a TA resulted in two department awards for outstanding graduate teaching assistant. A fellow graduate student and myself also founded the undergraduate philosophy club in 2015. We organized bi-weekly discus

I played competitive junior tennis in Southern and Central California from 12-18 years old. I reached the #1 ranking for the "14 and under" and "16 and under" divisions in my county. I played varsity all 4 years of high school, with our team reaching 8th in a national tournament, and my doubles partner and I finishing 3rd in the Central Valley. I was coached for 4 years by former ATP player Hank Pfister. While I stopped playing competitively on a regular basis after high school, I have continued to play with friends and, on occasion, in club tournaments. My USTA level is 4.0.

Robert is your guy! Extremely personable, knowledgeable, and patient.

Robert did a fantastic job of reviewing the course material that I sent him prior to our meeting. He delved into my assignment with me by providing his own written breakdown of the material and conversing back and forth to better explain the concepts. I found him to be patient, enjoyable, understanding, and relatable. He also provided me with study material to assist with the concepts that I struggled with. I highly recommend him.
