For much of my education at CSU Bakersfield, I tutored at the CSUB tutoring center as their geology tutor. I also was a teachers assistant in Religious Studies classes, and was the lab instructor for a geology class. As well, I worked over the summer with a program that brought science education to students, and my class was one filled with English learners and disadvantaged students. These experiences helped me appreciate the great depth and intellect students have, and made me sharpen my teaching skills in order to help them learn and grow. I love tutoring because it is a chance to let others know and understand the world around them, as well as ensures I know what I am talking about in better and more nuanced ways. Its a win win!

In geology, you need a lot of geometry. Understanding the earth requires understanding the structures and forces that make it work, and that involves a lot of geometry. These processes involve math in order to understand how they work, and geometry is that subset key to that understanding.

I tutored other university students in geology for years, graduating with honors, as well as challenging myself through the type of coursework I chose to do. Tutoring others in geology meant not only understanding it, but understanding and knowing how to relay that information in a variety of different ways and techniques, making myself more knowledgeable, as well as making me a better communicator.

Graduating as the outstanding religious studies graduate, presenting papers on several topics, as well as being a teachers assistant ensured I knew a lot of historical and cultural aspects to religion, but also how to discuss religion in a fair and open way. Discovering other peoples conceptions of the divine, or lack there of, helping them to think about issues, as well as discovering what the culture was like at the time of writing, and how that can affect scripture and the concepts of the time, is something I greatly enjoy.

If you are interested in contacting me and getting help with these types of subjects, I would love to get in touch. I used my university time to talk to many different types of students, and practiced getting what I may know in my head across to those who are just starting these concepts. Meeting students where they are at, and working through problem points on their terms is something I strive to do.

Religion

I have been a teacher's assistant for Christianity at CSU Bakersfield, as well as assisted in conducting other classes while there. I presented a paper discussing the implications of science and religion having a cooperative relationship and how that can benefit both fields of study, and this paper is currently undergoing review for submission to an academic journal. I received the award for outstanding religious studies student, meaning I was the most qualified undergraduate in religious studies for that graduating year. I achieved a 3.9 major gpa, as well as high marks from all professors.
