Hi! I'm Christopher S., a college student and after school teacher/tutor for K-12! A little about me, I'm currently enrolled at California State University Bakersfield to become a Professor at a Junior College or a teacher at a school. Whichever comes first! I also enjoy physical sports, songwriting, and performing live music.

EXPERIENCE
I've been teaching after school for over a year with a classroom averaging between 21-40 students; teaching subjects pertaining to S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). Through the after school program, I've realized how much I enjoy helping young minds grow, and the sense of pride when I see my students succeed. I have also coached elementary basketball, soccer, and baseball teams (one year). I can create and implement lesson plans, following PBIS guidelines (Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems); along with taking precautions to ensure a safe environment for my students as I am also a mandated reporter. When I was enrolled at Bakersfield College, I tutored students with Math, English, Music, and Communications (two years).

EDUCATION
I graduated from South High School in 2013; afterwards, I enrolled and graduated from Bakersfield College with an Associate's Degree in Communication. I'm currently enrolled in the Bachelor's program at California State University Bakersfield to pursue a BA in Communication focusing on PR. I am also working towards my teaching certificates and a MA in English Literature.

I have been creating my own music for eight years now, along with performing live shows in different venues around Bakersfield. I took college classes for Singing, Piano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, and music production. I have know how to use various music software programs, recording hardware, and physical instruments such as the Trombone and Drums; though Bass Guitar is my personal favorite. I have been practicing and participating in music everyday for at least an hour. Whether it's through my instruments, or through songwriting. You could say music is my bread and butter.

In the school I work for as an After School Teacher, along with having a class, I was also put in charge of many of the sports programs. I have coached the basketball, soccer, and baseball teams. As well as teaching students various ethics about the sports. I am most familiar with baseball however, as I have played the sport for 9 years with an 8.9 batting average.

Overall, my specialty is communication. I hold a firm belief that while knowledge in itself is valuable, a great teacher who can not only connect with students, but educate them at the same time, is invaluable. I know that any subject can be taught to a student so long as the teacher is willing to communicate with them. Not from just a teaching perspective, but as a mentor as well. Someone who can show how more serious academics such as engineering, math, biology, or technology, can be fun AND useful. That is what I strive for, to become an effective communicator with my students so that I can help them grow as both a student, and a person.

Public Speaking

While attending a community college, I was enrolled in the Communication Program. This centers around different aspects of communication, which was reliant upon public speaking. With my good grades, along with how comfortable I was at public speaking, I applied and became a tutor for college students enrolled in public speaking classes. I maintained this for 2 years until I achieved my degree in Communication Studies.

Music Production

Music Production

Beginning in High School, I took classes to learn how to play instruments (like most, I went with guitar first). As I got older I branched off into different instruments such as the Bass Guitar, Trombone, Drums, Piano, and vocals (my specialty is Bass Guitar). In high school I tried to teach myself how to compose music through different audio programs (FL Studios, Audacity, Garage Band, Logic) and how to record live instruments through audio interfaces and recording microphones. When I entered College I took college-level classes for 3 years to further my ability to compose and play music. Some of which are mixing vocals with instruments or several instruments together, how record clean and non-distorted sounds though various software, how to read and write sheet music/tabs, how to use MIDI controllers, how to properly (and safely) connect together speakers, amps, instruments, microphones, and effect pedals (modulators), how to compose music through mac and windows audio programs, proper patterns and techniques for playing instruments, along other skills. I applied all these skills to creating my own music with other local artists, which led to performing live in local venues around my hometown. I currently spend 1 to 2 hours each day in my studio room practicing and discovering new ways to compose music and practice for 8 hours a week with a band.

Guitar

I've been playing guitar (electric, acoustic, and bass) for over 7 years now, starting with classes from when I was in high school, to classes in college. I combined these classes with self teaching during my free time, spending 1 - 2 hours a day practicing. Eventually, I continued to pursue music as a hobby and since, have performed live shows locally as both a guitarist and a bassist.

Sports/Recreation

Baseball,

Baseball

Starting in high school, I played Baseball outside of school in a sports team for 4 years. Continuing this all the way into college, where I maintained this for 5 years. Once I became an after school teacher, I couldn't afford the time to play. However, I was put in charge of most of the sports at my school site, where I coached elementary sports teams (Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball). Having experience with baseball meant I was able to apply my knowledge of the sport to coaching my team throughout the year.

However, I was put in charge of most of the sports at my school site, where I coached elementary sports teams (Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball). Having experience with baseball meant I was able to apply my knowledge of the sport to coaching my team throughout the year. The teams were separated into two different age groups, baseball for the older kids (5th-6th) and softball for the younger kids (some 2nd, 3rd-4th).
