About Ramsses

I am a first generation college students to my family. I graduated from California State University with a B.S. in Natural Sciences with a concentration in Biology and a minor in Mathematics

My current occupation at Bakersfield College as a STEM Transfer Mentor. My responsibilities consist of tutoring students in Mathematics, Chemistry, and other science courses, informing them about US or CSU Transfer Agreements, and how to familiarize with the campus services such as financial aid, student government, health center, and other resources.

The unique aspect of my profession is that I have been tutoring college students for 6 years. My experience and training has helped me better understand not only the subject, but also effectively assisting students to the best of my extent.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

For Algebra I, I have covered basic order of operations, expanding and simplifying equations, solving for a variable, and graphing functions.

I tutored students in the subject at Bakersfield College as a STEM Transfer Mentor. Although I passed and completed the Calculus sequence, I should be able to tutor this topic.

Algebra 2

Although that I have completed the Calculus sequence at a community college level, I have tutored students who were currently taking algebra courses. I was able to help cover the algebraic fundamentals such as order of operations, solving for variables, and manipulating equations.

ASVAB

I have experience taking the ASVAB exam before starting college. I studied and passed with a sufficient score to be eligible to be a cyber computer technician. I can cover all of the subsets consist of mathematics reasoning, general science, mechanical reasoning, and other content.

Biology

I am subject competent to tutor biology. My declared major is in Natural Science concentration in Biology. I have taken, Genetics, Physiology, Evolution, and Ecology. I still have my college notes and textbook for reference.

Calculus

Before transferring to CSUB (California State University of Bakersfield), I completed my calculus sequence at Bakersfield College, Bakersfield CA. After taking two upper division courses, I satisfy the requirements for a minor in Mathematics.

Chemistry

I completed the Chemistry sequence at Bakersfield College before receiving my A.S. in General Biology. My chemistry instructor referred his students to me for tutoring.

I am able to demonstrate chemical reactions, how to balance stoichiometry, identify unknown compounds, figure out molar concentrations, and write formal chemistry lab reports.

Elementary Math

I tutored Mathematics at Bakersfield college from basic algebra to calculus for the past 6 years. Completed my B.S. in Natural Science with a minor in Mathematics.

Prealgebra

Although I took Pre Algebra in my high school freshmen year, I score a high A in the course. I was recognized as student of the month at Nogales High School. My teacher referred me to students who need tutoring.

I can explain the theory behind the arithmetic, logic, and solving equations. The definitions of terms can be explained, clarify, and demonstrate examples to real world application.

Precalculus

I have been tutoring Precalculus at Bakersfield College for the MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement) and STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs for the past six years.

Precalculus is the most asked topics to tutor. I have been proficient with it for most of my academic career. I have scored exceptionally with my Math instructors. I was referred and hired as a MESA Math tutor and STEM tutor. Eventually, I work as STEM Transfer Mentor, which is a faculty position. References available upon request.

Trigonometry

My qualifications for Trigonometry is my experience through Pre-Calculus at the community college level. I am proficient with solving trigonometric functions, rectangular and polar coordinates, trigonometric identities, proof by induction, and further topics.

I am familiar with graphing the functions through Microsoft Mathematics, Texas Instrument calculators, Wolfram Alpha software, and more. I can draw both 2D and 3D graphs.
