Hello! Thank you for your interest!

I am here because I have a passion for teaching and a strong desire to help you succeed in your classes. Science isn’t easy. Frequently, I tell my students that it’s like learning a new language at the same time you’re also learning a large volume of information in that language. It’s easy to get lost in science classes, but I’m here to help untangle the material and explain it in a way that is more easily understandable and relatable.

My educational background includes a BS in Biology (minor in Chemistry) and an MS in Biology, both from CSU Bakersfield. As of the Fall ’17 quarter, I am working on my PhD which is focused on Applied Microbiology, Quantitative Ecology, and the Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Disease (Environmental Studies) at UC Santa Cruz.

I’d like to think that most tutors feel passionately about teaching and education, just as I do. So why choose me? I have experience working as a full-time Associate Professor of Biology at a local community college. While in that role, I taught multiple non-major’s Intro to Biology courses. I used my office hours to tutor students one-on-one and have received outstanding feedback from student evaluations which I am happy to share with you.

I have also worked as a lab instructor in the Biology department at a CSU campus for four years. While there, I taught microbiology labs (and was a lecture sub) for pre-nursing microbiology, general microbiology, and medical microbiology. Furthermore, I have experience teaching college-prep chemistry at a local high school as a full-time teacher.

Over the course of my career, I have had several years of experience tutoring students who range from the junior high to university levels. An advantage of my experience as an instructor is that I have unique insight into what other instructors might expect from students. This enables me to help you study for exams more efficiently and effectively. If you're looking for a solid tutor, who can help you make real strides in your scientific understanding, I'd be honored to help you. Thank you for your consideration!

Elementary (K-6th)

I am qualified to tutor K-6th graders because I have successfully passed the CBEST exam. I have also worked with homeschoolers and traditional students at those grade levels. I've tutored K-8th students in both reading, math and science. Additionally, I've had experience working as an intern teacher at the high school level. Furthermore, my educational level places me in the "highly qualified" range with regard to teaching K-12 students due to the fact that I have a master's degree in a science.

I hold a master's degree in Biology and have worked as a Biology Lab Instructor at the university level, in addition to working as both an Adjunct Biology Instructor and an Associate Professor of Biology at the community college level. My expertise and research experience combines microbiology, ecology, and pathology/epidemiology.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

For my second bachelor's degree, I minored in chemistry. I've completed the inorganic chemistry series, organic chemistry, in addition to completing biochemistry. After completion of my MS degree, I worked as a college-prep chemistry teacher at the high school level; as a community college professor I covered chemistry at length in my non-majors courses.
