American River College (English)
I have two years of experience working as a student tutor/intern at the American River College writing center. As a current honors student en route to the University of California Berkeley, I have participated in many writing seminars, academic symposiums, and extracurricular teaching activities to help me bolster my resume. In addition to my hands on experience as a tutor, I have a tremendous passion for language subject matter. I believe my enthusiasm for writing helps me better cater to the needs of a diverse range of students. My lessons include personalized instruction based on each student's learning style, teaching tools and lessons I have developed through my years of hands-on experience, and short interactive explanations that will help each student get in touch with the English language.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Qualifications: I am a professional student tutor experience at the college level, three months of teaching training, professional academic writing experience. I have also performed peer tutoring at the high school and college levels. Additionally, I have extensive experience with learning about teaching methods in English subject matter in campus English club seminars.
During my time as a student tutor I was able to be a member of the grammar curriculum development team as an intern representative. In addition to learning about how to best teach grammar to a diverse student base while on that team, I have also implemented these tools during my almost two years of tutoring experience. I have also taken additional grammar courses at the college level, including English Structural Analysis of Grammar.
I have taken over five various college literature courses, including but not limited to: Honors Literature 300 and 301, World Literature, American Literature I and II, and various other literature survey courses. I have written two independent research projects for college research symposiums, both of which have been included in presenter finalist competitions. Additionally, during my almost two years of tutoring experience with the American River College writing department I taught various literature based essays to a diverse clientele of students.
I have experience teaching reading to students as a means of better understanding course work. During my time as a student tutor, I taught note taking, reading strategies, and comprehension techniques in order to maximize any students retention of material. I have taken seminars on reading techniques, and also been personally mentored by reading professors while on the writing center team at American River College. Overall, my experience of teaching reading has been learned through careful observation of professionals in the field, and then later through applying what I have seen successfully done in the classroom setting.
I have four years of academic honors symposium project work, all of which has been independently presented at various consortium's and symposiums around the California north-state. Additionally, I have been an assistant teaching and student tutor in a college writing center for almost two years. My course work and educational background includes all lower division honors writing courses, various essay based literature courses, and independent study of essay writing.
