"I just don't get it - it's SO hard!"
I cried every night for a week as my parents patiently drilled me with multiplication flashcards, timed tests, and encouraged me to work through learning something difficult that seemed pointless to a third grader. Fast forward a few decades, I realize that first (of many) breakthroughs paved my path through many math, science, physics, and engineering courses, eventually leading to a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford.

My name is Tammy, and after a wonderful career in biomechanical engineering and research, including ten years at NASA Ames Research Center and working internationally, I have discovered a new passion in education. I am entering my eighth year of teaching undergraduate math (College Algebra, Precalculus, Calc I & II) and biomechanics. Having developed curriculum for undergraduate and graduate online courses, I have also experienced and appreciated the potential and effectiveness of online instruction.

My tutoring days began in high school, helping struggling classmates, continued as a part time job through college, and now as a university lecturer, I have successfully tutored many students (including my three kids!), guiding them to their own learning breakthroughs. When concepts don't come easily or quickly, I enjoy the challenge of finding an explanation or illustration to bring clarity. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than to see students experience "lightbulb" moments, seeing the big picture. In addition to covering the desired material, I also emphasize critical thinking skills and strategies for problem solving which builds confidence in all areas of learning.

If you are looking for a highly qualified, empathetic, approachable, and patient tutor who will strive to make math understandable, and dare I say, applicable to real life, please contact me today. Be proactive, ready to work, and set yourself up for a successful school year - I am here to help you navigate through rough spots, cheer you on, and see you triumph!

Precalculus,

Precalculus

Functions, functions, functions! That is the heart of PreCalculus. With 11+ semesters of teaching PreCalc at university under my belt, I continue to incorporate new approaches and examples to bring clarity to key concepts, especially for those students that don't consider themselves "good" at math. Let me help you master the building blocks of polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions, then step back and see the big picture of how they are all connected... Lay that solid foundation for higher level mathematics and appreciate their real life applications!
Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Calculus, Geometry
