My ACT/SAT students earned over $1,500,000 in scholarships just in the last school year and they consistently score 26-36 (ACT), 1200+ (SAT) & improve 2 letter grades in class. My 2018-2019 students earned ACT scores from 24 to 36 (a range of 74th to 99th percentile) and SAT scores from 1230 to 1580 (a range of 78th to 99th percentile). My ACT/SAT students earned over $1,500,000 in scholarships just in the last school year and they consistently score 26-36 (ACT), 1200+ (SAT) & improve 2 letter grades in class. My 2018-2019 students earned ACT scores from 24 to 36 (a range of 74th to 99th percentile) and SAT scores from 1230 to 1580 (a range of 78th to 99th percentile). While I always recommend at least 10 lessons, I've had dozens of students make huge gains (3 to 6 ACT points and 100+ SAT points) in 1 to 3 tutoring sessions. I have perfect scores on both the ACT and SAT.

Nearly every one of my students earn A's in their Science (Chemistry, Physics, Biology) and Math (Algebra, Geometry, Trig, Calculus) courses or improves by 1-3 letter grades mid-semester. I also offer help with graduate exams including the GRE and PCAT (my scores are in the 94-99th percentile).

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring method works by helping students learn content, concepts, problem-solving, and test-taking skills while developing the confidence they need to succeed (confidence is surprisingly important!). I listen carefully to my students and develop strategies that work well for them as individuals. Each student is unique and every session is personalized depending on which area they need help on. My teaching approach is patient, leaving time for learning to unfold. I often use what is called the Socratic Method of teaching, guiding students to the correct answer with a series of questions instead of simply giving them the answer. This method has been extensively researched by learning scientists, many of whom believe it is the best way for students to learn. It leads to higher retention of material and better understanding of concepts. Jon helped my son pull up his ACT score from a 28 to a 30. Even before we committed to meet, Jon helped my son decide whether to take the ACT or SAT or both, based on what is realistic and doable within the time frame that we had. He was honest about whether my son could achieve his test score goal and devised a plan for how much time he needed to commit to doing practice tests and tutoring sessions. My son received help on questions that he missed, especially on the subject that was his weakest. In fact, he got the most useful strategies for his worst subject and was able to raise that score the most. He was very comfortable asking questions and really liked the way Jon explain things. We hired Jon as my son needed to get his ACT score up. Jon worked patiently, professionally and with a flexible schedule to help prepare my son to retake the test. He had a great personality with my teen and my teen completed the practice tests required without a lot of complaining which was a miracle. My son went from a 25 to a 28 which is what he needed for the schools he is looking at. I would highly recommend Jon - he is very knowledgeable about strategies and is super thorough.
