Hi there! My name is Sarah. I was a high school teacher for several years and really loved it. I taught all levels of English Literature from General to Advanced Placement and GATE in grades 9-12. As a teacher I specialized in literature and writing, and to be honest relied heavily on the Teacher's Edition when it came to Grammar. I am currently in my final year of graduate school for a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and have a teaching credential, a counseling credential, a BA in Philosophy and one in English, as well. I miss teaching and personally remember what it felt like wishing I'd had just a bit more help in high school and college when it came to writing. I hope I can help you get the added support you feel you need.

Pacifica Graduate Institute really specializes in Jungian-based psychology--which is to say it emphasizes mythology, philosophy, imagery, dream-work, world religions and the unconscious. This said, traditional medical-models of psychology rarely consider the "whole human" and sum-up diagnoses based on symptoms and statistical prevalence rather than a qualitative approach of genuinely understanding each individual. There is value in the DSM and traditional psychology, but I believe today's highly institutionalized psychology frame-work is a far cry from what Jung and Freud had in mind.

I would not say that I am an outstanding English tutor--I would say that I am an outstanding literature instructor and writing instructor. My grammar is "ok." However, my understanding of and ability to explain deeply complex (and very simple) forms of literature is exceptionally high.

I have been in school, collectively, for 24 years. I am finishing up my final year of doctoral work in Clinical Psychology.
My preferred demographic is high school and college level students. I will of course take on any adults or even middle-school aged students who are interested in added support or just brushing-up on reading and writing skills. I am really looking forward to getting started and helping students out with their trouble spots in order to help them succeed and feel more confident.
