Hello ! My name is Constance and teaching is my passion. I genuinely care for all my students and strive to make sure they succeed. I am an able tutor. After teaching 14 years in the public education system, I realize that some children need that extra attention, or a different approach of the teaching style to help them perform to their capabilities. I love teaching, I love helping others, and I love getting to know my students. I am patient, respectful, fair and honest, creative and love the bond between teacher/tutor and the student.
I have a CA. Multiple Subjects teaching credential, as well as a CLAD certificate ( Cross-Cultural Language Academics Development). In addition, I have an Adaptive Physical Education certificate. I started my career as a 7th and 8th grade Physical Education and 7th grade Language Arts teacher. After 4 years of this assignment, I taught 5th grade, my most favorite grade, for 4 years. I have also taught 4th, and 2nd grades. I loved them all. My students always did well on the yearly state tests. I am flexible with all ages, from K-12, and beyond.
I am a logophile....I love to learn new words. Learning new words helps one to understand the world around them. There are specific words for each discipline that one most know to fully understand the expectations of that subject. Plus, there are specific words related to distinct social situations, e.g., going to the doctor. A good vocabulary is necessary to learn, grow, and be included in society. I can teach vocabulary in such a way as to ensure student's better understanding of the world.
Through many years as a public school educator, I have developed many strategies for teaching handwriting and spelling, such as spelling tricks and games.
When I was a small student, phonics was my favorite subject. Without knowing phonics, reading and writing become very difficult. I have many resources to teach phonics.
Character development is also emphasized throughout my lessons. I create a compassionate environment where the students want to learn, become critical thinkers, and set them up for success in school and in the real world. My goal is to make each each student WANT to be a life long learner.
I'd be happy to help anyone who needs a tutor in many different areas. Please contact me though email, and we can chat some more to see if I can fulfill your needs. I'm confident that I can. Thanks ! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have 10 years experience teaching 5th, 4th, and 2nd grade. All my classrooms were inclusive and I learned very quickly how to differentiate instruction to meet all my students needs. I use a variety of teaching styles (progressive, democratic, essential-ism, constructivism, independent vs. group work.) I'm very creative and resourceful when it comes to teaching a lesson. I have a CA multiple Subjects teaching credential, as well as a CLAD certificate.
I've taught elementary Math at the 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade levels. In the 4th and 5th grade levels my students performed exceptionally well at the standardized tests. I enjoy math and am very patient at teaching this subject.
Through my experience as a 2nd grade teacher, 4th and 5th grade teacher and 7th grade language arts teacher, I have come across all kinds of handwriting samples. I see the need for handwriting to start at a young age since a bad habit is hard to break as the child gets older.
I taught 10 years at the elementary level (5th, 4th, 2nd and one year as a reading specialist for under achieving students). Phonics and understanding the various sounds a vowel can make, as well as blended letters, seemed to be at root of all reading difficulties. When I was a small student, phonics were my favorite subject. It is my duty as a tutor to make phonics and sounds fun for the student to learn. I have many resources for this subject area.
