My students range from adults to children. I have taught both one-on-one and in classroom settings. One-on-one, I like to first see what the student would like to achieve and what their current abilities or blind spots are. Then we build a constantly evolving plan to target their individual needs. These goals could range from something very specific, like hitting a minimum score for a test, or something more broad, like becoming conversational in a foreign language, or improving their creative abilities in general. Each student is different! So while a “curriculum” is nice, this is definitely molded to suit particular needs.
This philosophy applies to classroom dynamics as well. I always focus on particular areas that I see the majority of the class struggling with. Then, we break down into smaller groups where students get to test out their skills with peers of a similar level.
Some more background info on me: I graduated from Princeton with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and Environmental Studies. My undergraduate education was very broad, in the sense that I had the opportunity to learn a wide variety of subjects that interested me, such as Latin American History, History of Buddhism, Poverty and Development, History of Aesthetics, Environmental History, Muslims and the Qur’an, Classical Chinese, Urban Planning, International Relations, Social Psychology and Portuguese. After graduating, I embarked on a year of environmental activism and policy analysis work at a NGO in Beijing, China. Afterward, I became an actor and artist in Los Angeles. Artistically, I have been painting and drawing since I was five years old.
