I currently work as a substitute special education assistant for A.V.U.S.D. as well as a certified mentor and tutor through AmeriCorps. I have been doing this for over 10 years. I'm currently working on my B.A. degree in special education through University of Phoenix. Every year I am a volunteer with a group of kids through the YMCA as a camp counselor. I have my certifications in CPR/First Aid, computers, tutoring and so much more. The main thing that stands out to me in the education system we have now, is why students cannot remember half of the material 2 or 3 years down the road. We as educators also need to always be willing to work with any student no matter what his or her situation is and what area in their education they need help in. When I was in middle school I was in a program through the school as a mentor, tutor with students who where having hard times. With the experiences that I have and gone through I feel that I am able to help the students move further in their education to the best of my abilities.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working with ADHD and ADD kids to adults for several years now both on and off school grounds. I am currently a special needs assistant as well as a mentor/tutor through our local school districts. I work mainly with the ones that need constant redirection as well as can't function properly with themselves as well as others without redirection. ADD/ADHD is a symptom where they are not able to fully control their actions towards themselves as well as others.
basketball is a very active team sport. The keyword is team because you can only do so much on the court by yourself. I played for 2 years through Apple Valley Parks & Recreation. It was an interesting sport because there aren't any games that are not the same.
Chess is a very strategic game. There are several tricks that I have learned over the years such as using the brook, bishop and knight all within two moves to move your king in the corner of the board. This is where the thinking falls into place!
Counseling is a great tool that is useful to help students that are in college or going into college to set them up for what they are interested in. one thing that you always want to do is start off with a basic conversation and get to know them and what their interests are and find out what or where they plan on heading into with their future. i was in a program in high school and middle school that help students figure and stay on where they where plan on heading into their future. P.A.L.E.S. is a program where you do anything from teaching to counciling. this program was a useful tool because it helped students get situated. using this in college helps us know what to do and how to get us to are goal. it also depends on what type of college they are in because the schools may differ.
Future in your education is important to me because I have had a hard time getting there and I know how it feels to start out. I able to work elementary students K-6 in all areas. I have had experience with kids for about five years know through the recreation center and after school programs that I was involved in. I am CPR/First Aid approved. I always enjoy seeing the outcome of what they learned from me. I enjoy doing art and extracurricular projects as well. I am capable to work with all kinds of environments and students no matter what their condition is disabled or not. I understand that every student learns in their own way and pace so each student is always something new to me because I have and opened mind and am grateful because I learn things from them as there tutor. Can’t wait to start!

Can’t wait to start! I have had experience with all computer programs and typing lessons. I am capable to setup or install new programs and show my students how to hook or setup their computers or laptops. I have some experience with Mac, but I am more familiar with windows. Word, Excel, Power Point, One Note, printers, down loads, Photoshop and other programs that are provided. Always willing to learn something new.
Phonics is a great program that is out there to teach reading. I have experience with how it works until we came out accelerated reading (AR Books) as most of us know them as. I have the patience to set down with all ages to read because I use the method that I was taught such as read a little then stop and ask myself questions. When I am working with a student I have them read out loud and then we go on from there. When reading an elementary level book most of them have pictures and there is a totally different method to this. I am capable of reading at all levels and once again able to sit with all types of children disabled or not.
Poker is a wonderful game to learn as long as you do it responsible. it is sort of related to the game Yahtzee. high card, a pair, 2 pair, 3 of a kind, full house, flush, 4 of a kind. this game you learn so many techniques on how to bluff and so on and this is a great communication game both talking and with motions. most games come with chips or depends on what game your playing with and how. there are a variety of games such as deuces wild and poker, and their are several other card games but poker is the most know game and a great tool/game to know.
Public speaking is an area that I have been doing more and more now that I work with two districts and a private tutoring company. The more you practice the better off you are. I found it has helped me out a lot more if I practice with people who will tell you like it is. We have to take all the feedback weather it was good or bad and use it for our benefits. When speaking in front of PTO meetings our school/work presentations I have been able to learn several tips and tricks.
I have played soccer for eight years. I played my games in the high desert. I have played as forward mostly and am capable of all the exercises that are needed to get prepared for each game and practice. I have tried other sports but this is what I really enjoyed playing and putting my effort in. am willing to share everything that I know and get you the information needed if you’re interested in joining a team in the high desert. A forward is one that is dead center in the field and start of the game and this position is a main one to me because you have to make it a team sport and not become a one man team. Be prepared for all games and practices and you will be at your best in any game or practice.
I am capable of working with all types of special needs children because of the volunteer work that I have done. I have learned and already what should be common since to any one everyone isn't the same. These types of people should be respected no matter what their situation is. I have had experience where I went to school and helped out there and for me to observe how they adapt to their surroundings. Me being disabled and having family/friends with this makes it 10x more understanding to be able to work with them with their education. They are just as important as everyone else just they take a little or a lot more patience’s then others. Once they are respected they will respect you it always works and the number one goal is always communication!!I am also CPR/First Aid certified.
Studding for your subjects is important it is just the time and effort that you put into it. I have a variety of ways to offer them skills in all subjects and situations that they are involved in. I have had experience with the schools in being able to assist the teachers with their classes. I was in mostly elementary schools with grades K-6, also with disabilities students and I have learned that it takes time and patience for everything. I am capable to handle all subjects in the elementary school level. I am recently taking child development classes, which I have completed five so far. Study skills is a subject that I use to observe the students and then go from there to see where they stand and work with them more than needed to see a better outcome for them.
