Saint Mary's College of California (Business Admin)
As someone who struggled in a few subjects as a kid (such as math), I know what it's like to feel frustrated or discouraged over homework, tests, and teachers who just did not teach. That is why it is important that students have access to tutors who are willing to be patient and take the time to make sure they truly understand the material. I want to be someone your students trust when they need help and it is my goal to empower them and give them confidence to succeed, no matter how long it takes. I can teach your student basic music, math, history, English (vocab, spelling, grammar, literature, essay writing, reading and note taking), and Spanish (first level vocabulary, pronunciation and conjugation).
I graduated with honors from Saint Mary's College of California in May 2013. My degree is in Business Administration.
I have played saxophone for 13 years and oboe for 8 years. When I was 20, I spent a summer self-employed teaching paid music lessons to grade school students as a Private Music Instructor for Alto Saxophone. I created lesson plans, assignments, and taught basic music theory to beginners (aged 9-20). I helped students with playing technique, range, scales, and dexterity. My oldest student needed help learning the march for marching band season and I helped him get into high school Jazz Band. I can teach students basic music theory, prepare them for jazz band and concert band, and teach lessons on saxophone and oboe.
Throughout high school and college I took honors or advanced English courses and received top marks, especially in essay writing. I can tutor your child in spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, literature and essay writing. I can assist them in finding suitable study techniques, such as the use of mnemonic devices. I can provide some test preparation, such as one-on-one quizzing or practice questions. I can also proofread student assignments and essays, and teach them how to formulate and express their ideas coherently and clearly. Finally, I can teach students how to locate errors in their own writing and make sure they have addressed the assignment prompts.
In high school I took three years of Spanish, and right now I am currently studying Italian.
I am passionate about developing skills in students and helping them succeed in school. Now that I have described my strengths and experience in the subjects above, I look forward to hearing from you and helping your student in any way that I can! As someone who struggled in a few subjects as a kid (such as math), I know what it's like to feel frustrated or discouraged over homework, tests, and teachers who just did not teach. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
