Hi, my name is Thalia and I am 25 years old. I graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with an emphasis on mental health and a minor in Spanish. Hi, my name is Thalia and I am 25 years old. I graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with an emphasis on mental health and a minor in Spanish. I have worked as a tutor when I was in college for about 5-6 years and loved everything about it! I have also worked with special needs students and have also loved it. Each child has their own unique way of learning and finding what works for them is part of the fun! It is like putting a puzzle together.
Tutoring with me may not always mean that we figure something out the first time. However, trying more than once helps find the missing piece. The effort is what counts, and showing up is the first step in the right direction. Secondly, I love using visuals to help make learning easier such as games, pictures, or videos. I look forward to working with any student soon, two are better than one. Together we can succeed!
Although English is my second language, through schooling and work I have acquired proficient skills that can help someone. We all may struggle with certain vocabulary words or how to spell or pronounce something, but the keyword is in "acquiring," meaning it is the knowledge we can learn and use. Together we can conquer English!
I tutored elementary students for two years in a program called College and Career Mentor (CCMP). Through that time, I learned how to approach a student, how to teach them, and most importantly how to help them learn in their own way. Modifying lessons, using visuals, or simply dedicating a few extra minutes to explain something can go a long way.
I have worked with special needs kids for three years now. I know how to deal with behavior issues, taking data, toileting, and positive reinforcements. Every day is always new and that is part of the fun, never knowing how the next day will be. Together we can make it be a better day or a great one!
