California State University Fullerton (Flute Performance)
University of North Texas (Master's)
I am a flutist from Southern California. I have had experience teaching in the OC area for several years, and have prepared several students for competitions and college auditions. I moved back to Orange County a few years ago from the Dallas area after finishing a master's degree at the University of North Texas. In Texas I taught several students in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex and have judged competitions. As a flutist I have performed in several ensembles in Southern California and North Texas, played in film, television, and video game scores, toured Portugal, recorded on CD's, and have participated in international music festivals. I am currently performing in the Orange County and Los Angeles County areas, and mostly teach privately. Several of my students have found success in their school ensembles, college auditions, as well as outside competitions. I also teach in several elementary, middle, and high schools in the Orange County area. My students range in age from 4-60 and I love to help my students set and achieve musical goals while focusing on great technique/sound.
I also teach beginning and intermediate piano. I have experience teaching piano in group settings as well as privately. I played piano for several years and have been teaching piano lessons for about 5 years. I am also experienced working with younger students (4-6 years) and students with special needs. I am a general music teacher for a public charter school that promotes alternative learning styles, and can be flexible in my teaching style. I am a flutist from Southern California. I feel like Christine was able to clearly pinpoint Annie's areas for development. She made a good plan and was very patient with my daughter.
Christine has extensive knowledge in music theory. Always punctual and well-prepared, she is great about breaking things down and explaining each component of music theory.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's degree in Flute Performance from the University of North Texas under Dr. Mary Karen Clardy, and a Bachelor's in Flute Performance from the California State University of Fullerton under Cynthia Ellis of the Pacific Symphony. As a flutist I have had the privilege of studying with many great teachers including Susan Milan, Thomas Robertello, Dorothea Seel, Jean Ferrandis, and currently with Catherine Karoly of the LA Phil. I have been teaching flute for several years privately, in studios, in elementary schools, in high schools, and in group classes. Several of my students have been successful in competitions and college scholarship auditions. I am also very active as a performer and perform regularly in all over Southern CA. I have also been featured in recordings for films, video games, TV, and other studio recordings.
I have studied Music History for several years. Along with the core curriculum required for every music major, I did a related field (basically a minor) in Music History/Musicology during my Masters at the University of North Texas. I have studied Musicology extensively and have studied the methodology behind Music History. I have also written several papers on a variety of topics in Music History.
I have been studying music theory for a number of years when I was younger and in high school. I also took all the necessary theory courses during my undergraduate, and also studied advanced music theory and analysis. I also did some analysis and theory during my masters degree.
I was classically trained in piano for 8 years before I began to play the flute. Although flute is my main instrument, I also took piano classes during my Bachelors and Masters degree. I have experience teaching beginning level piano to younger students as well as students with special needs. In the Dallas area I taught several community group piano classes for students. I am currently teaching piano privately.
