Hello, I am a children's author, published writer and blogger. I specialize in creative and expressive writing as well as sentence structuring. My work can be seen on sites which feature e-books. I have also written for several community newspapers in the past and am pleased to say that my uncle was editor of the Wall Street Journal a number of years ago. Those with writing talent have a way of expressing not only the way they think and feel but to also capture the thoughts and feelings of their readers as well. I've often had readers comment that what I wrote mirrored exactly how they were feeling, but they just didn't know how to express it. One cannot be afraid to reveal themselves in their writing, while at the same time maintaining a measure of personal privacy.
I have enjoyed helping elementary school age children as well as adults learn to read better and to improve their comprehension of what they are reading through proper grammar, pronunciation and sense stress. I have also had limited experience in helping those who have learning disabilities. My experience in this area has been centered around volunteer work. Reading opens up so many worlds to children and adults alike. When one reads well, understanding grows. I find that teaching reading by means of phonetics is the best way for someone to learn. When one just tries to memorize a specific word, it only serves them well if they see that particular word again. But, if one learns how to pronounce words properly using vowels and accents on the right syllables, then they will be able to know how to read any word.

My 8 year old son and I have been meeting with Robin for a few weeks now. Before meeting we had discussed his needs as well as where we should begin. I really feel that starting over with the basics (like we had discussed) has really helped him. I see a huge difference in his reading of some words that he didn't necessarily grasp before! We will continue to meet with Robin as she has truly been great and what we were looking for!
Mrs. Robin K. has been helping with English reading, punctuation, and intonation. She is a resourceful and well prepared teacher. I enjoy working with her very much.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
To sound proficient in any language one needs to understand the rules of grammar including proper pronunciation and recognition of punctuation marks. One also needs to understand how syllables of words are broken down and where proper emphasis should be placed on the word. It is beneficial to not just read words but also to read thoughts. This will aid one as they prepare to speak publicly and communicate the information and thoughts in a fluent way.
Phonics is the ability to learn the proper pronunciation of all words by sounding out the vowel sounds and understanding when a letter should have a short sound or a long sound. Also important is understanding which syllable(s) of the word should be accented. When someone learns to read in this way, they will be able to read much more fluently and be able to sight read.
I am able to assist one in learning to read well by teaching how to sound vowel sounds out, break down syllables and recognizing proper punctuation so that sentences flow more freely.
