I have extensive experience in journalism and composing in-depth research papers. My specialty and passion is writing!

Throughout my career, I have continually been drawn to teaching, tutoring, and mentoring. I genuinely enjoy helping students, whether they are applying to schools, preparing for tests, needing remediation, or desiring to take their skills and knowledge to the next level. I have tutored and edited for college and graduate school students, professional writers, and academics, as well as elementary school children and illiterate adult students. Each student requires both an intuitive understanding of the learner's difficulties and the application of different strategies, techniques, subject matter knowledge, and sensitivities.

Specifically, I have been an EFL and Disabled Students Program tutor at UCSB, a literacy tutor at a refugee center in Germany, and a private editor for S.J.D. and Ph.D. candidates and fellow writers. I am eager to share my love of learning with you as you achieve your goals. I believe my unique academic, professional, and international experiences can be an asset to you.

My approach is to target the student's immediate problem, but also to teach lifelong academic skills so that he or she will not be forever dependent on a tutor or editor. Particularly in language arts, there are no quick fixes. I can help students achieve that confidence that comes from competence and understanding.

If you would like me to be your tutor, we can meet at a mutually agreed location, and I require 24 hours notice of cancellations.

I am looking forward to working with you!

Knowledgeable, Judicious and Professional!

In a nut shell, Cindy is amazing! The two times I have worked with her, not only did she teach me something new but she inspired me to strive for better. She is very patient, kind, professional and honest. Just by reading my paper she was able to quickly and effectively identify where I needed improvement. She does not waste a minute of your time; she makes sure you get your money's worth. PS. I usually don't take the time to give reviews, unless I feel it's worth it or necessary. Cindy is too good for me not to take a minute (during finals) to acknowledge it and share it with others.

Very patient

Cindy was able to identify the disconnect I was have between my writing and what the professor wanted. She was able to break down the problem so I am able to apply it to future papers.

A master of her craft

Cindy is the one of the best and most passionate Writing/English tutors I've ever met. I've had lessons with top-rated tutors on Wyzant (5000+ hours) who charged ridiculous rates just to fix simple grammar. Cindy was the only one to actually teach me how to write an engaging essay from start to finish. Before reaching out to her, I was frustrated by my personal statement. I was all over the place with my ideas, and my draft lacked coherence and story-flow. After just a few sessions, she was able to address all my concerns and showed me how to convey my ideas genuinely and concisely. She will go above and beyond just to help you even if it meant tutoring you for long hours or meeting with you late-evenings. Plus, her witty jokes and comments will keep you energized all night! She is absolutely the best and truly a master of her craft!!

Kind and enthusiastic tutor

As a homeschooling parent, I am so happy to have Cindy as a writing tutor! Writing is so hard to teach properly, but Cindy is very knowledgeable about the best methods, sequence, etc. She is also engaging with my child and obviously really cares about her as a writer and also as a person. She is sensitive to learning differences, and follows a developmentally appropriate approach to writing, building solid foundational skills and confidence. She is very perceptive and adapts the lessons to the particular strengths and weaknesses of each student. I have seen progress with my child's abilities and also with her attitude toward herself as a writer. Highly recommended!

Great teacher! Great advice!

My son was struggling with his essay. Even though he knows something wrong, he doesn't know how to correct it. After the first class, he saw the light, and my son really enjoyed the lesson. Thank you!

An excellent tutor

I believe Cindy is a great teacher. Following are what I have noticed about her. First of all, I can tell that she does very intensive research into the subject that she teaches. This allows her to be extremely thorough. Secondly, she is a talented teacher in that she gets to know students' abilities, their strengths, weaknesses very easily. This allows her to formulate her teaching plan in a manner that most needs of the students. Lastly, she is able to teach in an encouraging way so much so that my children actually look forward to the tutoring sections.

Best English Tutor

My daughter told me that 1 1/2 hours of tutoring with you is too short. She really enjoys the way you teach her, and she can't stop talking about how much she learned from you and how great you are. She actually said that she may want to change her major to English because she finds English to be very interesting now!
