I have always enjoyed helping students when it pertained to chemistry. My first experience began as a tutor while obtaining my B.Sc. at University of West Florida, which began since most of my free time between classes was spent in the chemistry library. While at University of California Riverside, I was a teaching assistant for the lab courses in general and organic chemistry. The duties included presenting lab lectures, supervising students during experiments, holding weekly office hours, as well as proctoring and grading student lab reports and exams.

My most memorable moments from being a teaching assistant were spread out through my duties. The direct interaction with the students during lab experiments and office hours is what I cherish most as a teaching assistant. Even if only a couple students ask me a question or are present at my office hours, I feel a sense of accomplishment that I am supporting a student's desire to perform better in chemistry, which I would be able to see manifested in better lab reports and exam scores.

I have taught as a teaching assistant for two years in the general and organic chemistry lab courses. I encourage students to be able to figure out answers as much as possible without being directly given the answer. Rather than pure memorization from topic to topic, I emphasize knowing key concepts and fundamentals and applying them to more advanced applications. This is how properties of atoms, molecules, and ions can be used to determine the path of a reaction mechanism.

If you require assistance in general or organic chemistry and you think that my style of teaching will help you perform better in chemistry, feel free to contact me at least 24 hours ahead of time. Include any particular chemistry topics if possible. Also, I don't charge for 15-30 minutes overtime past the scheduled period.

Organic Chemistry

My qualifications in organic chemistry are due to my undertakings in not only organic chemistry I, II, and III, but also an organic synthesis course. I have a master's degree in chemistry with two years of experience as a teaching assistant in organic chemistry. My style as a teaching assistant entailed knowing key concepts such as properties of atoms, molecules, and ions, e.g. electrophilicity/nucleophilicity, steric size, and extent of acidity/basicity, and applying them to more advanced applications, e.g. reactivity, prediction of mechanistic steps, and structure elucidation/characterization.
