Hi, I am Helen, a second year student at UCI. I joined AFE (Academy for Future Educators) in high school and had some experience in tutoring math and ESL. For math, I tutored Algebra I for an entire year as a class tutor. I also helped in after school programs, basically helping students with their homework. I also had an experience working with young children as a private tutor for Chinese and math. I think tutoring is a really fun experience which I can help and learn from my tutees.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Back in high school, I was an AFE tutor. In my junior year, my daily duty is to tutor students who have difficulty in learning algebra. In addition, I also tutored an eighth grader algebra last summer.
