About Aaron

I am new to Wyzant, however, I am not new as an educator. I am a former high school math teacher and I am California Credentialed. I taught for five years in the public school system, namely at Alhambra High School and West High School in Torrance. I have been privately tutoring for almost 15 years. I have extensive experience teaching all levels of Math including Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, PreCalculus, and Calculus.

To give you an idea about my effectiveness as a teacher/tutor, my students increase their grades by an average of 1.5 letter grades. In other words, I can take a student coming in with a C in his/her math class to an A- on average. Just to name a few, a student at Walnut High School progressed from having a "D" in her PreCalculus class to having a 95%. A student from Cal State LA who struggled to understand his professor in his College Algebra course went on to receive, not just an "A", but the highest grade in his class. Another student at Alhambra High School who was in danger of failing his Calculus BC class was able to bring his grade all the way up to an A by the end of the year and went on to score a 5 on the AP Exam. My favorite story, however, is of a student from South Pasadena Middle School taking Algebra 1. His grade at the time was a D and his Math teacher did not think he could make it through the year, so together with the administration, they pressured his mother into allowing them to drop him to an Algebra 1 class taken over the course of 2 years. After having evaluated this student, I did not believe he was incapable of succeeding in the original class. I convinced his mom to fight to place him back to the regular Algebra 1 class. She was able to and with my help, the student has been able to raise his grade to a B. He is still improving and our goal is to get him to an A by the end of the school year.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I have 8 years+ experience tutoring calculus.

CBEST

I am qualified to teach CBEST Math as I am a former High School Math teacher and I have passed all subsequent exams including the CBEST. More importantly, I am qualified to teach all levels of Math up to Calculus.
