I am a caring and creative teacher. I learn from every relationship with each student and their families, how to become a better more efficient teacher. My students often succeed at their tests and grow to love the language or other subject matter they are learning. I have worked for over 35 years teaching mostly English as a Second Language, but also French, some kinds of low level math, writing, history and some kinds of test skills. I would love to hear from you about your needs. I can analyze those your problems. I love students of all abilities and believe that all subjects including spiritual growth are included in holistic learning.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have helped people pass CBEST, CSET, have presented workshops in teaching those of all ages and abilities and gifts. I have also taught ESL reading and sheltered reading. I love reading and can often find a way to get you to love it. I also have studied techniques to teach reading, ESL, and test-taking. I have, therefore, experience, expertise and passion for this subject.
I have experience and training in working with people with attention deficit disorders. I have studied how language acquisition is affected as well as advancement in all subjects. I have tutored students with this spectrum of disability . They have been of all ages, and I have used smell stickers, rewards of all kinds, some holding back of rewards and emphasis on what they love to do. With this kind of approach, I have had small and large successes, great leaps in reading for example.
I teach ESL, conversation and grammar, but only in relation to communication. I can also teach the kind of grammar that will help you pass TOEFL, etc.
I studied French at McGill in Montreal and I also lived in Paris. I would love to work with students on this subject. Also I majored in French.
I teach reading; that means the three things: phonics, meaning, and the last is magic. If you're not enjoying it, seeing the movie so to speak, you aren't really reading.
