With passions for American History, Politics, and English, and as a Theater Teacher with experience at Cal State LA, Cal Poly Pomona and USC, I've also been a tutor for two years. I've been Mom to 20 year old twin sons with autism, and an active volunteer with community groups and schools such as Villa Esperanza and others for longer than I can remember. I have an MFA in Directing from Cal State Fullerton, with my thesis productions being Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Harold Pinter's Betrayal, Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, and Marsha Norman's The Laundromat. Along with a BA from Cal State LA with courses ranging from Statistics to American History all receiving "A's", I also have an AA from Los Angeles City College with coursework ranging from Political Science, Theatre, and Latin.
Working in the theater has allowed me to have a great deal of compassion for others, with my greatest strength being encouraging others to believe in their own innate abilities. I like to break subjects down to manageable components, so that students can begin to understand completely the process of learning that works for them.
Looking forward to working with you in the future!
Elizabeth H. Hello everyone,
With passions for American History, Politics, and English, and as a Theater Teacher with experience at Cal State LA, Cal Poly Pomona and USC, I've also
My son and daughter started their lesson with Elizabeth since February this year. In 2 months I saw significant improvement on their English speaking, math, and acting. Elizabeth found their problems and improved them. My kids both got very good feedback from their teachers on their report cards. I am so glad to find Elizabeth as our tutor and plan to use her long term as long as she willing to teach my kids. I also referred my friend's kids to her because I thought she is the best tutor!
SHE SEEMS TO BE HELPING MY SON WITH HIS LANGUAGE ARTS. HE LIKES WORKING WITH HER AND HOPEFULLY HE WILL RETAIN WHAT HE IS LEARNING AND BE READY FOR SIXTH GRADE
It is for my friend's daughter, so she can get better in English. Very good teacher, my friend's daughter likes her.
Thank you Ms. Liz for your patience and your manner in tutoring our 9 year old. He enjoys each meeting and looks forward to the next time that you two get together.
She is amazing. She has done whatever my daughter needed in the first session. Definitely. I will continue to use her as a regular basis tutor for my two kids. My daughter likes her so much. She even says that she is the best tutor so far. She is so patient and gets to every detail in every step of a lesson. I hope everything will work well with my daughter in the future. Thanks Elizabeth. I am so glad that I found you.
Elizabeth was a breath of fresh air. She was extremely engaging, and seems to be a good fit for my children. She appears to be very knowledgeable and well versed. My children liked her a lot, and are looking forward to beginning their academic journey with her.
I am an international student who is studying California institute of the arts and now I will transfer to NYU Tisch school. As an actor, I was so frustrated my accent. Primarily, I just wanted to find a tutor to take accent reduction class. I never thought of doing like what I am doing now. But, Elizabeth H. changed that all. She is a great teacher for acting, pronouncing and singing. I just got the audition for NYU graduate. After the audition, the auditioner was shocked by how I could do perfect english monologues in a short time. I really really want to thank Elizabeth H. I am proud of her. Maybe this review like an advertisement, but I just want to say what I learned from her. Not only pronunciation, but also acting and arts work. So improvement is easy with a fatastic teacher and efforts. You Raise Me Up!
Mrs. Elizabeth H. is very patient with our son and we have noticed that he has been making great progress ever since.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I completely understand test anxiety especially when it comes to Math. A student can be a creative English, Social Studies or Arts person, and still have the patience and persistence to gain an understanding of something that doesn't come naturally. Don't be afraid! YOU CAN PASS THE TEST!
Understanding the twists and turns of our nation's founding through to it's present-day complexities is a fascinating journey. And that's exactly how I approached tutoring in this area.
In 1997, I heard the words that parents really don't want to hear from a pediatrician, "I think your child is autistic". Diagnosed with mild/moderate autism, my twins boys are now 17 and our family is enjoying life. My husband and I learned how to teach our children from listening to other parents, teachers, aides, workshop leaders and coaches; and I combine that knowledge with my own professional ability to teach, to help students with their academic studies.
Going to school I always excelled at English and Reading, but Math scared me until my Nana and Papa taught me to enjoy it. With setting up my own lemonade stand, cooking, measuring wood to build things, and playing board games; people that I loved made math real to me. Now I like to use some of these same techniques in my teaching.
I enjoy coaching those entering the public speaking arena. I like to clarify and illuminate some key techniques to assist my clients in sharing their ideas in both informative and persuasive speeches. Through my experience teaching in the American Theatre for over twenty years I've helped many business, science, and others students from diverse backgrounds develop and improve their ability to speak and engage in public.
You can be a good writer, but still find test-taking in this area stressful. We will work to give you some tools to get through this roadblock while completing your exam.
As a former adjunct professor at the university level for 20 years, I've gained the knowledge of how to inspire and teach students to develop effective study skills for success with academics.
Theatre has been a part of my life for many years, directing plays across the theatrical canon such as ROMEO AND JULIET, DEATH OF A SALESMAN, Brecht's ANTIGONE, and TO BE YOUNG, GIFTED AND BLACK. As an acting and writing coach, I enjoy bringing others' creativity to light.
Writing is a combination of self-expression and organized thinking on paper. Helping each individual to find their own voice is my highest goal in this area.
