Bio

I embrace challenges and do my best to overcome them, that's how I got accepted to the physics PhD program of UC Berkeley even though I am an international student, and won a Fulbright fellowship. I love helping others overcoming their challenges.

I have two BS degrees from Bogazici University/Turkey (one in Physics and the other in Molecular Biology-Genetics).

Currently I am a PhD student in UC Berkeley department of Physics and a Fulbright scholar. My research area is theoretical particle physics. (Please note that Bogazici University ranks 1st in physics in Turkey, and UC Berkeley consistently ranks among top 3 globally in physics).

I have got a perfect 990/990 on physics Graduate Record Examination (GRE) exam in 2015.

I spent a total of 10 months at CERN. 2 of them were when I was an undergraduate summer student , and 8 were as a graduate student member of the CERN theory group. I am a member of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory theory group as well.

My passion is to learn about nature, especially the most fundamental aspects of nature. I find immense joy in sharing what I know with others.

I taught (and still teach) physics courses at UC Berkeley as a teaching assistant, and received superb reviews (available on request). I took the teaching/pedagogy course of the physics department to qualify as a teaching assistant, in that sense I am a formally trained teacher.
Anytime I taught the first part of a course series (like mechanics 1), my students always encouraged me to teach the second part next semester so that they can continue with me. I received stellar end-of-semester reviews, even in the challenging environment of UC Berkeley.

As a PhD student specializing in theoretical particle physics, I have an excellent grasp of physics and math. Still, I always prepare for my lectures beforehand so that my students can learn the most.
I have a professional graphic tablet to facilitate our online sessions, and I always provide written notes of that session to you, so that you can study them again whenever you want.

My background in physics and math is self-explanatory. And numerous good reviews I received throughout my teaching career encouraged me to teach at Wyzant as well. I have helped numerous students reach their goals and I am looking forward to helping you too.

Turkish

Turkish

I grew up in Turkey, and came to the US for my PhD. Turkish is my mother tongue and my English is advanced (so that I can teach at UC Berkeley). Thus I am qualified to teach Turkish in English. Since I grew up in Turkey, I am familiar with daily language, formal language, culture, and any detail that only a native speaker knows. I know the country very well too. Thus studying Turkish with me is good not only for language learning purposes, but also for getting familiar with the culture/country. Feel free to reach out to learn about Turkish and Turkey!

Great tutor

Cigdem is an awesome tutor who took the time to meet with me and tutor me for longer than expected since I was having a lot of trouble with physics. He gave me notes after the session that I was able to look at afterwards to continue my learning. Thanks!

Extremely knowledgeable and profound

Fantastically intelligent and clear tutor from basic mechanics to quantum field theory with an interest in what it all means. And in qft his is a significant mind that questions this, as quantum tells us very strange things about the world in which we live.

Precalculus Review

Cigdem is a great tutor and explains topics really well. He also provides step by step explanation as well as a copy of the notes he writes during the session. 10/10

Knowledgeable and patient tutor!

Cigdem is a great tutor! He helped me with my college math assignment on Excel. Cigdem is a very patient, knowledgeable and prepared tutor. I would definitely recommend him for a tutoring session and I will be using him again if I need help with any future assignments.
