Hello! I have taught grades 1-6 for almost 10 years now in the Bay Area. I currently teach 4th grade in Hayward. I'm a Bay Area native and have a degree in Liberal Studies and Education and of course a California Multiple Subjects credential for grades K-8. students.
I am certified to teach English learners as well and have years of experience doing so. I taught English and grammar to incoming students to the U.S. I also have many years experience as a private tutor where I taught students how to read.
I love working with kids; they are the reason I am a teacher. I have always had a gift of working children and building academic relationships by providing engaging, quality lessons and activities.
I am certified in CLR which stands for Culturally and Linguistically Relevant education and much of this curricular theory is about designing instruction that engages kids in movement and discussion that really keeps their interest while also appealing to each student culturally. I have worked with wonderfully diverse demographics and am passionate about individualizing education to suit the needs of each and every one of my students. I believe and am passionate about individualized instruction because each child is wonderfully unique and requires different lessons to best appeal to and meet their needs while fostering their success in reaching common core standards. I have in-depth experience in designing lessons and activities based on common core learning. I love what I do and am highly successful at it. I have never had a student that didn't receive enormous support and therefore my students genuinely love me as a teacher. I look forward to working with your child and helping them to grow in an engaging way as a learner.
Specifically I have taught two years of first grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade. I have taught for over 9 years multiple subjects in general education classrooms but have also had a good amount of experience working with students with special needs. I had 1-3 students diagnosed with autism in first grade, second grade, and 6th grade and I have two students in my class this year with visual processing and retention difficulties. All lessons are scaffolds and designed to meet each of their needs individually.
I have taught writing and reading for years now and specialized in writing teaching 6th grade core.
I teach writing using scaffolding and beginning with assessment that helps me see on which each skill needs the most improvement than i design lessons based on these results. I do the same for reading and math. I follow common core standards to develop all lessons ans assessments.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught common core based lessons and activities in the classroom setting for three years now. I consider common core to be an extremely valuable instructional methodology because it utilizes manipulatives and gives students a foundation of content and the focus is more on the process and the thinking then the answer. It teaches students to gain confidence and really explain their thinking allowing the teacher to easily assess in an impromptu manner how students are learning. Almost 10 years experience teaching elementary mathematics; highly qualified instructor of Common Core state standards.
I taught 1st grade for two years and have worked with all grade levels advancing children in reading. I have run leveled trading groups in 2nd grade teaching students to isolate sounds, sound out, diagraph recognition, letter sounds, vowel blends, and more. I have found assessment of students reading levels to be an essential first step. Then I put them into small groups and read with them everyday using leveled books geared towards the teaching of phonetics and sight word recognition as well. I'm a Bay Area native and have a degree in Liberal Studies and Education. I also have a multiple teaching credentials.
It is essential for growing students to learn study skills in order to be successful. As a private tutor and teacher I have taught ways to take notes, graphically organize information, prep for tests, time saving tricks, tips for how to analyze information easily and quickly, how to structure essays, tricks and tips for pre-writing, memory retention and more. Learning to take notes is extreme important and a time saver in the long run and the kids practice recognition of main ideas. Using memorization tricks is helpful and different methods of studying are appropriate depending upon the subject matter. The use of color such as highlighters is also helpful for those students who are visual learning. Appealing to their strongest learning style is a good place to start every I'm a Bay Area native and have a degree in Liberal Studies and Education. I have a multiple teaching credentials.
I have trained other teachers and worked as a informal reading coach for 3 years and I also have taught 2 years of first grade where the primary focus was on reading skills. I have taught a number of students to read over the years due to having several struggling, below grade level students every year. I use small reading groups that are leveled daily in which we focus on reading and comprehension skills. I have watched my students go up 5 or more levels over the course of the school year.
