I'm a native English speaker and have been teaching since 2009. I enjoy helping students learn. Learning can be fun. My goal is to make my lessons as engaging as possible. My knowledge of other languages helps me understand the challenges learners face. I am able to explain the differences in grammar between languages so that students can understand. I teach English to non native English speakers as well as teach Spanish to native English speakers.

English/ESL Teaching Experience:

My English teaching experience includes teaching writing to college students, both native and non native English speakers as well as middle school students. I recently taught developmental writing at California State University East Bay. I currently work at a private language school where I help business professionals improve their English language skills, primarily in speaking, pronunciation and grammar.

I've taught English oral fluency, pronunciation, speaking and listening to Italian high school students. I taught ESL/English conversation, grammar, reading and writing to individuals and small groups.

I have worked with adult immigrants from Mexico, from countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and countries in Central and South America. The lessons focused on improving their conversational fluency, listening, reading and writing skills.

ESL/English for Specific Purposes:

I've taught English for specific purposes to adults in a variety of fields (childcare, real estate, manufacturing, software, dental, education, medical, food service, property management). I also taught career skills like interviewing. In addition, I've taught native Spanish speakers English using both English and Spanish depending on their English language proficiency.

Spanish Language Teaching:

My Spanish language teaching experience includes teaching Spanish to adults, middle school and high school students, focusing on conversation, grammar and vocabulary. I also taught Spanish to middle school students at a private school in the East Bay.

I work collaboratively with my students to create fun, engaging lessons customized to meet their learning goals. I incorporate role playing, games, mnemonics, and technology to facilitate learning.

After working together one-on-one, many of my students have been able to improve their grades.

I have a TESOL certificate from California State University East Bay and a B.A. in Foreign Languages from Lewis and Clark College. I'm a member of several professional organizations such as TESOL and CATESOL and ESL International. I am currently finishing my master's degree in English, specializing in TESOL.

Great tutor

She gave me tasks to work on to improve my Spanish. She pointed out the things that I need to work and gave me the opportunity to practice.

Great, Helpful, Patient, and Very Nice English Tutor!

Mrs. Genevieve is the best tutor I would recommend to parents. She is really experienced, knowledgeable, caring, and patient. My 8 year old daughter had the first lesson with her; she tested her to find out what are my daughter's strengths and problem areas. After the test, she went over it with my daughter and also let me know. I really like the way she is tutoring my daughter. I am strongly recommend Mrs. Genevieve for your kid(s); she is the best - a great, patient, and nice tutor. Thanks so much Mrs. Genevieve for all your hard work.

Smart, great, patient tutor

Whoever needs a tutor, try Genevieve. If anybody is looking for a smart and nice tutor, pick Genevieve. She teaches the shortcuts and explains very well and clear for the kid to understand what she wants the kid do. I had a problem looking for a tutor because I tried a lot of different tutors but I didn't like the way they teach. When I tried her, wow. I like the way she teaches my son, I trust her and rely on her to teach my son. Genevieve is a very nice and smart tutor. I have a 5 year old daughter and I hope by the time my daughter is big Genevieve is the one to teach my daughter. Thank you so much for all your work, Genevieve!
