I have six years of experience as a Certified Substitute Teacher for the Wellton Elementary School district and I am passionate about children learning! I have tutored and taught children from ages preschool through eighth grade. I understand the importance of a good education and how some students "fall through the cracks" of the school system. Not every child learns at the same speed and many require more one-on-one tutoring than others.
I am a mother of three teenage boys, the youngest with Asperger's Syndrome, so I have learned much patience and had to embrace unconventional methods of teaching with him that I know will carry over into teaching your child.
I love the diversity of the English language and how we can use it to tell a story, give direction, inspire and convey different thoughts and messages. My favorite subjects were always Grammar, Reading and Writing and Vocabulary, but as a Director of a Preschool a few years back, I learned to embrace Public Speaking. I am bilingual (English/Spanish) although my preference is English teaching/tutoring.
During my time as a CST, I frequently taught children from ages Kindergarten through eighth grade Reading fluency during daily 45 minute interventions. This type of tutoring was short, but intense, and the children seemed to love beating their past reading scores from the day before!
I have taken classes and done many trainings on Special Needs and Disabled children and as I mentioned earlier, my son is on the Autism Spectrum. I had to learn quickly and very thoroughly what his world was like for him in order to understand him better, therefore helping him succeed in school.
I spend much time on my computer and am proficient in MS Window, especially Word. I have intermediate knowledge of American History, Social Studies and World History and am also Catholic and proud of my faith.
I would love the opportunity to get to know you better and see in what areas I can best serve you! I live in the Wellton area, but will travel to the Foothills/Yuma areas to meet at your home or at a Library of your choosing.

Although I require a 24 hour notice to cancel, certain exceptions will apply and are solely at my discretion. I will be happy to reschedule the missed lesson at a more convenient time for student.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
