About Akio

Hello, My name is Akio, and I have a passion for helping students become better students . I specialize in Writing, Reading and Math. For math, I specifically specialize in elementary/middle school math, pre-algebra, and Algebra 1 on the high school and college level.

I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Management from the University of Phoenix. I am currently a substitute teacher at various school districts and have been for the past three years. While substitute teaching, I have come across amazing students who have struggled at various subjects and need more one-on-one attention from teachers or somebody who has knowledge of a particular subject. This experience has motivated to become a tutor and I have a vision of opening a tutoring business in the future. My teaching strategies are based on traditional methods of teaching and not the Common Core. To me, learning is much more than getting a good grade on a test. I like to help students realize their potential at whatever subject they wish to improve upon. My goal is to teach and equip them with learning strategies that build their confidence in academic coursework and can be used in the future in any subject.

I am fairly new at doing formal tutoring but have been informally tutoring family members and friends for several years.

All students have the ability to succeed in the classroom at any subject, and I try my best to do whatever it takes to help every student improve.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
