In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As an English and linguistics major, I have taken in-depth grammar courses, and I apply this to my work as a tutor. I know English grammar can be confusing, and I can explain the most frustrating aspects of the language to put you at ease.
Having worked as a university writing tutor, I often help students with the finer mechanics of writing, including proofreading for errors. I also give students tips on successful proofreading so that they can be even more confident in their writing.
