I teach because I love to see the excitement, pride and relief that students have after they've reached their goal. I feel so lucky to be able to participate in this process by providing guidance and support. I started tutoring as a homework help volunteer in high school, and I've been working with students ever since. I eventually became a chemistry teacher and, after 5 years in the classroom, decided to embark on a new career path and returned to college. Now that I'm back in school, I'm excited to have the opportunity to help students meet their academic goals as I work towards mine at the same time.
I specialize in general chemistry tutoring (including AP at the high school level) and algebra. I'm also able to help out with things like study skills, test-taking and time management. Since every student learns differently, I will personalize our sessions according to your needs--assigning homework, providing individualized worksheets, and giving progress reports are all options, if requested. I also do pre-planned group review sessions. I organize them myself for big tests (like AP Chem and final exams) and can work with you to design one that will suit your needs.
It's important to me that you get the help you need, so, you can expect that I'll ask students and parents for feedback regularly. If you are not satisfied with our session, you won't be billed.
In order for me to provide the best instruction I can, I ask that my students contact me 24 hours ahead of time with a summary of what they'd like to go over during our session. I find it particularly helpful if they can send links or attachments of specific problems. While I have experience teaching and tutoring, I don't have all the answers, so I like to come prepared!
I have a B.S. in Science education, chemistry emphasis; 5 years teaching chemistry (AP, Cambridge, Honors, regular); 8 years tutoring chemistry (general chemistry at Pima and UA); and 8 years tutoring general math.
I prefer to meet at the University of Arizona library or nearby coffee shops, but I can be flexible with the location as long as it's quiet, comfortable and has reliable internet access. If you do need to cancel, I request 12 hour notice; any no shows will be billed.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you! I can provide references upon request.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
