I have enjoyed teaching students in a variety of settings, but my favorite is individual instruction. I think understanding how a student thinks is the first key to successful learning. A second key is utilizing a variety of instructional strategies to match the student's needs. My 40 years of experience with students range from primary grades to middle school in all areas of reading, writing and math. I am certified in K-8 education and Special Education.
Selecting the right tutor for your child is an important process. I am available for an in person interview with parents and students before any tutoring charges are incurred to ensure the best fit for the student's tutoring services. My 5th grader was so excited to tell me all about her session. She is so excited to continue working with Susie! She has been struggling with reading, sentence structure, spelling, and comprehension. She also struggles to get her thoughts written out on paper. She was so excited after her session that she finished her project the same night, and even started talking about what she wants to do with Susie next time!
Susie worked wonderfully with my son. She was able to help him complete a past due assignment that he had been struggling with in the first hour. My son has ADD and struggles with putting his words down on paper, he is bright but was failing English for his inability to complete essay questions and reports in a timely manner. After 3 session with Susie, he has begun to get the confidence in his ability and has made excellent progress in a very short time frame.
We are going on a year that she has been tutoring with our 8 year old son. We have went to one time a week and he is showing such an improvement from this time last year. Sean enjoys the time with Susie and her approach with making games and laughs out of learning really has changed my son's outlook on his studies. I myself have learned a lot from Susie and that has helped me work with him on my own. Thank you Susie. We are forever grateful!
My son was hesitant at first to be tutored, but after the 3rd session, I think he is warming up to Susie. At the end of the session, he didn't want to stop until he achieved a specific goal when they were working on IXL. It felt like he was actually motivated!
Susie is GREAT with our son - he loves her and responds very well to her. She is dependable, respectful, and truly enjoys working with and helping kids. We are so happy to have her!
Susie structures her lessons with my ADHD son in a way that he is focused the entire time. I appreciate the extra work she does in preparing for the tutoring session on her own time. My son enjoys working with her!
Susie came to my house ready to see where my daughter was and put a plan together that aligns with the school's plan. She works wonderfully with my daughter and after three sessions I'm already seeing some improvement. I would recommend Susie to anyone who has a child that needs some extra help. I am extremely happy with the work she has done so far and can't wait to see how far she can get my daughter.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a certified special educator, I have worked successfully with students who experience symptoms of attention deficit disorder. Often, students benefit from individual attention, novel ways to practice new learning, and hands on learning experiences. Ultimately, students need to understand what the learning target is and how they will achieve it.
