About Asher

I have an extensive base of knowledge as well as educational and professional experience in all areas of finance, including: equity investments and analysis, valuation methods of various financial instruments, financial accounting, fixed income, derivatives and alternative financial instruments, economics, institutional and individual portfolio management, international finance concepts and the interworkings of domestic and international financial markets.

My educational qualifications and background include a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Finance degree and a Master of Science in Finance with a concentration in Fixed Income degree from the University of Arizona. I am also a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Charterholder and possess Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Series 7, 63, 86 and 87 securities licenses. The CFA designation, in particular, is a rigorous process that is attained through sitting for and passing three six-hour tests encompassing all aspects of finance and completing several years of relevant industry experience.

In addition to my extensive financial educational background, I have more than four years of professional work experience at two large, publicly-traded international investment and brokerage companies as an equity research analyst. My professional experience spans both the buy- and sell-side investment industries, which provides me with a unique perspective of and well-rounded exposure to US public equity markets and equity investing. I also have a moderate amount of teaching experience through my experience as a college teaching assistant at the University of Arizona.

I believe my educational and professional experience make me a good resource for students or individuals looking to expand their knowledge of finance from entry/beginning level material to graduate/advanced level work. In addition to being a resource for a broad range of finance concepts and curriculum, I believe I can help students or individuals who might be looking to improve their study and learning habits. My tutoring approach is aimed at being fully adaptable to an individuals specific method of learning as all individuals learn in different ways and at different speeds. I believe tailoring instruction to each individuals specific learning strengths rather than using a "cookie cutter" approach is the most effective way to help individuals appropriately master new and difficult concepts.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

My accounting experience and skills are strongest as it relates to its application in financial settings. I have a concrete understanding of generally accepted accounting principals (GAAP) and their use in financial statements and SEC filings for publicly traded companies. I am a strong resource for applications of effective and accurate accounting concepts in building and forecasting models of the three major financial statements for publicly-traded companies. Given my educational and professional experience, I believe I am qualified to assist students in entry-level and intermediate accounting courses as well as courses geared specifically toward finance students at an undergraduate and graduate level.

CFA

As a CFA charterholder, I understand the rigorous demands of the process and level of concept mastery required to successfully pass all three levels of the tests. I believe I can be a good resource for prospective candidates struggling with certain concepts or areas of the tests as well as be able to provide effective tips and instruction for successful study habits to navigate the immense amount of material. Given the extensive range of material covered on the test, effective and efficient study habits and time management are key to putting yourself in a position to succeed in mastering the tests.

Economics

My economics experience and strengths include applications of broad concepts related to financial applications and markets. While I do not have an extensive depth knowledge of economics as it pertains to a major in the subject, I have a strong understanding of economic concepts and factors impacting financial markets and individual companies. As such, I am able to provide effective instruction for and have a mastery of entry level college macro and microeconomic courses.

Finance

I have extensive educational and professional experience and a deep base of knowledge in virtually all areas of finance. I possess a BS degree in overall finance and a MS degree in finance with a concentration in fixed income, am a CFA charterholder and have over four years of professional experience as an analyst in buy- and sell-side equity research.

As such, I can be a very effective teacher/resource for individuals looking for help with anything from entry level or beginning finance material/curriculum to graduate and advanced level work. Equity investments and portfolio management, valuation methods of various financial instruments, financial accounting and the interworkings of financial markets are particular areas of strength for me, but I also have a strong base of knowledge in fixed income, derivatives and alternative financial instruments and international financial concepts and markets.

In addition to being a CFA charterholder, I am also FINRA Series 7, 63, 86 and 87 licensed. Whether you are a student or investment professional looking for help with the material in these or related certifications/tests or you are looking strengthen or learn effective study habits to maximize efficiency and your chances of success -- I can be a strong resource.

Microsoft Excel

I have advanced experience using Excel in educational and professional settings. I can assist users who are just starting out to get comfortable using the program as well as provide more advanced users tips to effectively and efficiently build and use spreadsheets. My areas of strength include providing tips and instruction on constructing, organizing and simplifying spreadsheets and building strong financial and quantitative analyses. I am particularly strong and experienced in building fluid and complex financial models, especially modeling and forecasting the three major financial statements for companies.

Series 63

I am FINRA Series 63 licensed and can provide help in not only mastering the concepts and material but also providing tips and instruction for effective study habits to successfully pass the test.

Series 7

I am FINRA Series 7 licensed and can provide help in not only mastering the concepts and material but also providing tips and instruction for effective study habits to successfully pass the test.
