About Hunter

I received my undergraduate degree in History and Classics at the University of Arizona in 2005 (Phi Beta Kappa). After graduation, I completed a teaching certification program and an M.A. in Classics at the same institution. From the Fall of 2010 to the Spring of 2015, I was a PhD candidate in Classics at UCLA.

I have extensive tutoring and teaching experience in ancient history, Classics, and Latin. In 2007, I was an instructor at Salpointe Catholic High School (History, 10th and 11th grades). From the Fall of 2008 to the Spring of 2010 I was a Latin instructor at the University of Arizona. I have taught the year long Latin sequence at UCLA (Latin 1, 2, and 3), as well as UCLA's intensive summer Latin course (Latin 16). In addition, I served as a teaching assistant for the following civilization courses at UCLA: Discovering the Romans, Discovering the Greeks, Cinema and the Ancient World, and Greek Mythology.

My interests include Late Antique social and religious history, as well as Latin epistolography.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Classics

I am an expert on the Greco-Roman world and have extensive experience in tutoring and teaching ancient Greek and Roman history, mythology, art and archaeology, and literature. I received my Bachelor's Degree in History and Classics at The University of Arizona in 2005. I also completed a teaching certification program at the same institution, as well as an MA in Classics. From the Fall of 2010 to the Spring of 2015, I was a PhD candidate in Classics at UCLA.

I have served as a teaching assistant in the introductory classical civilization courses at UCLA (Discovering the Romans, Discovering the Greeks, Cinema and the Ancient World, and Classical Mythology). I participated in the excavation of an Augustan bath complex in Chianciano, Italy. I also studied abroad at the American Academy in Rome.

Latin

I have studied Latin for over a decade and I have extensive experience teaching the subject. From 2008-2010, I taught beginning and intermediate Latin at the University of Arizona. I also served as one of the Latin instructors at UCLA, having taught both the year-long sequence (Latin 1, 2, and 3), as well as intensive summer Latin (Latin 16). I also passed the Latin PhD exam in the Department of Classics at UCLA.
